Went here last night on a total whim with my husband and some friends for dinner and what a gem! The food was absolutely amazing! For apps we had deviled eggs, lemon pepper wings, and philly egg rolls -- all delicious. For dinner we did shrimp and grits, a shrimp basket and the country fried steak -- blown away with the taste and flavor. I'm not local, but will absolutely be back because it is totally worth the travel for quality food ?

waited 25 min and not even offered a drink

American Soul is worth the tripFrom anywhere! The food is outstanding and the staff is friendly and accommodating! Stevie tends a tidy, friendly and efficient bar! The beer is nice and cold.I’ve had the lobster Mac & cheese which was great and served in a large portion! The country fried steak is perfectly seasoned and served piping hot! Im going back often. Trying the Sunday brunch tomorrow!

O.M.G. if you are craving a taste of the south...GO TO THIS SPOT. It's in a nice, quiet area. Outside dining is available. The food is superb and I like the fact that the cooks will come out and socialize with you if they are not busy.I had the Fried catfish with grits, deviled eggs, and collard greens. I felt like I had flown home to Florida and was eating my aunties cooking!I will definitely be returning because I MUST try EVERYTHING on their menu. Only thing I wish they had was homemade lemonade and homemade sweet tea.I paid $85 for 4 people.

Pros: #1 it’s a Black Owned Business. It’s got a good atmosphere, great music most of the food is good and everything is fresh. Pricing is right where I believe it should be for what you get. Portion size is also just right. Enough to enjoy, a little to take home.Cons: I hate that I even have any because it’s always my goal to support BOB but the service is horrible. I’ve been twice now and I won’t go back for a third time. Each time we’ve waited 15+ minutes to be seated, 20+ for an order and 40+ for the meal. No greeting at the door or making you a priority. I’ve not been where the place is completely packed to justify the wait times. And everyone is looking around with the same face probably thinking “Damn a black owned business with lackluster service” but you don’t say anything because you’re hoping it either gets better or you’re doing your best to support your own. I couldn’t in good faith tell friends/family to go here knowing the service is subpar. If they fixed up their service I‘d go back. Also, don’t order the mac and cheese, another big con. It’s not cheesy enough and doesn’t have the right taste. I’m sure they’re only using one type of sharp cheddar.

Food was amazing off the hook amazing. Definitely would go back. might just do take out. Even ordered collard greens to go home. Totally worth the trip for the food. Service needs improvement felt ignored and never got our own bread. Props to the lady in the kitchen who brought the food out. Great customer service there.

Food here is savagely good!! Make the trip. So worth it.

I've been here many times and usually enjoy the fried whiting and lemon pepper wings. Today I was told my order would be ready in 15 to pick up and had to wait 30 minutes. The lemon pepper wings were over done and dry, although the seasoning was good. The collard greens were tasty. The cheese in the mac and cheese tasted odd. I'm not sure if this was just an off day, but I do hope next time will be better!

Our first time going and wasn't disappointed. I ordered fried green tomatoes and creamy crab corn chowder as my appetizer, which was amazing. Our entree was a shrimp basket that includes thinly sliced French fries and coleslaw. My husbands was a southern fried chicken sandwich that included thinly sliced French fries with a side of a Hubbard punch drink and the beer (not on their menu). Very delicious and very clean. We will be going back.Hot note: please be kind and patient with the waitress and bartender. The man behind me was a little rude and wasn't even there for 10 minutes. Anyways, we will be back!!
