It's a 50's style restaurant that gets everything right to keep it in that style. From the setup to the the interior design to the employee uniforms. The atmosphere is extremely nice, everyone just seems so happy / friendly there. The ice cream is delicious and I highly recommend leaving room in your stomach after dinner to get some. The fried cheese is a very interesting unique item that made my cheese dog delicious in a whole other way. This isn't your 5 star gourmet meal, this is 50's American diner meal, and it's worth checking out easily, especially for ice cream.
Great sandwiches & outstanding hot fudge sundae. We had a great waitress. My only criticism would be that no one asked if we needed something when we entered and stood at the front counter for more than 5 minutes. We finally had to ask if we could just sit anywhere. There were no less than 4 people behind that counter that chose not to make eye contact with us or speak with us. Oh, and btw....this place does not take any form of credit payment....it is cash only. Thank goodness there was an ATM inside the building, otherwise we would have been washing dishes.
Place is still the same as always; from the decor to the attire of the staff. The only difference that we see is that they used to give you condiments like katchup, mustard, relish and fresh cut onions in the portable trays. But, maybe because of COVID, they all changed to packets and no more onions... Still very good food and that cheese wings ?
Best shakes ever! Good burgers and fries too. Great service. We are up here for a few more days and I intend on stopping back by.
I almost don't want to rate this place for fear that it would become crowded. The food and service was outstanding. Just moved into area and trying local restaurants. I had the five pancake special my granddaughter had eggs, toast and potatoes. The potatoes were very very tasty seasoned properly not overcooked just right! Our server Shannon was outstanding with her friendliness. It was so refreshing to have a pleasant and happy server.Fyi cash only. ATM on site
For many, many years, whenever passing through central Connecticut, I make sure to stop at the Shady Glen Dairy Stores. I'm always delighted that it hasn't changed a bit... and has clearly been that way for decades before I first visited.
A place that feels like it is stuck in time. Really cool to go inside, extremely friendly staff and tasty food selection. Got a cheeseburger, fries and a milkshake. A friend I went with said I had to get a side of cheese with my order and I understand why, it's pretty good baked cheese. They only take cash but have an ATM in the building. Would probably go again for some of the ice cream.
Went here last night with my girlfriend and my boys, the environment was interesting to say the least. The mint chocolate milkshake i got was amazing, enough to bring home in fact. It’s definitely a great surreal place to go to with good menu. It’s a bit pricy but I mean, what isn’t? Don’t eat it out if you’re gonna complain about prices you feel? Our waitress was funny and she wasn’t an NPC like the customers that were there, our party felt like she was one of us, great visit and would come back.
Our waitress was great. Food always good. If you've never been there and plan on going, they have the best coleslaw around and I recommend ordering an extra side of the fried cheese they put on their cheese burgers.
Love Shady Glen! Never disappoints and I always sit in Gabriella’s section because she is professional and always has a smile on her face!It is a great place to get a burger and best onion rings! Their ice cream is probably the one thing I will miss when moving out of CT. You can also get a milk shake in any of the ice cream flavors which is another plus!
