Visited yesterday for menudo. We also ordered a side of guacamole and a couple of beers (Victoria). The menudo was excellent. Although not common, I enjoy my menudo with hominy but that wasn't available. Other than that, service and the food were top notch. Will be returning!
After just one visit here, I can see why El Sarape is so well-loved in the Hartford community. Enrique and his staff brought out some truly authentic Mexican food and drinks that really impressed us. The birria tacos were definitely some of the best I've had, and they introduced us to a cantarito for the first time! I appreciated the time they took in the presentation of their dishes as well. My boyfriend loves spicy food, so the camarones a la diabla was a huge hit for him. I love mole sauce and really enjoyed the enchiladas, and we couldn't get over how big the burrito was! Everyone was very pleasant to us during our dine-in experience, and we could see that there were a lot of Doordash orders coming in while we were there. El Sarape is clearly very well-known in the Frog Hollow community, and for good reason!

My wife and I are Mexican and lived in the Hartford area for more than 3 years. As soon as we discovered El Nuevo Sarape it became our number one choice for most of the Mexican dishes. It is authentic! Try the Flautas and ask them to serve it with Mole Negro: True Oaxacan flavor!... The Quesadilla con Hongos is a heavenly dish... The Semitas are exceptional... And the Margaritas are as good as the ones you would find in the Kentucky Club in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, arguably the place where the cocktail was invented. They have a convenient parking lot and Cristina is a wonderful host!
