I dined in on Friday night, when it rained earlier than the forecast called for, so reservations for the patio had to be moved inside. The restaurant was packed and I was initially apprehensive about whether service would be able to handle the extra volume indoors. We ended up being seated promptly and there were no issues w/ service or delays from the kitchen. Even though they were extra busy, all staff who we had contact with were friendly and helpful. The fish and chicken dishes were prepared well, served hot, and the portions were generous. Pricing is reasonable for the quality and amount of food you get. We'll be back.
I'll preface this by saying I've been many times and enjoyed it. I called in a small take-out order (1 appetizer, 1 salad), they said 25 min. 45 min later, I wondered if they'd forgotten about me - there wasn't a good place to wait and no one said anything to me - so I flagged someone down to ask about my order, at which point the bag was produced (making me wonder if it'd just been sitting on a shelf somewhere). Although it took 55 min rather than 25, I figure hey, it's Friday night, they're busy...whatever. However, my $15 appetizer consisted of four cold, soggy shrimp on 2 extremely soggy, extremely salty pieces of toast. $32 and nearly an hour yielded a tiny, nearly inedible appetizer and a beet salad...needless to say, I'm kind of disappointed :/
I'm am sad to report that I will not be back. I gave it two tries. The first time we ordered three pizzas. They were so salty that I'm convinced the cook must have mixed up the sugar and salt when making the pizza sauce. We had to throw them out. No one, even a salt lover like myself, could eat them. Then last night we decided to give it another try. Ordered the eggplant stack which was good but the eggplant was cold and gummy. My pear salad was good. The cod special was so salty. I don't know what is going on with the salt issues. Very rarely do I ever say something is too salty but sadly it was. Sad to say that this cute neighborhood restaurant is not for me.
Pretty sure my lasagna was thrown in the microwave and my wife's ravioli was extremely bland. Their sauce is nearly tasteless and watery. The place seemed to be in chaos when we were there as well. Won't go back.
first time since they moved to new spot. sadly was not a good night. whole placed seemed a little chaotic. service was not what we were used to from cafe amici. seemed more like a restaurant in its first weeks of opening. dinners took forever, waitress never seemed to check if we needed anything, when i questioned the wait time the response felt snarky. i came there tonight for what was supposed to be a celebration but instead we all left annoyed and unsatisfied by the whole experience.
Awesome food
New location, new review! Friends and I went to the new place last night and we are all still talking about what a great experience it was. The food was (as always) great, top notch service, and a wonderfully chill atmosphere. 100% passes the vibe check, what a perfect place to go to unwind and have a bite with good company. Also, get the baked Alaska. You won’t be sad.
I really wanted to like this place. It’s close, and my wife loves Italian food. Gentleman that seated us was pleasant and accommodating. With all that being said…. Whoever is the cook has a heavy hand with the salt!!! One dish that’s too salty, I could deal with/overlook, but the whole meal? We ordered Calamari ( creative sauce, too salty), Mac and Cheese( too salty), the surf and turf( shrimp was too salty, HOW!!??). The last straw was the Margherita pizza we ordered for my son: too SALTY. He could not eat it. You know it’s a problem when a 6 year old won’t eat the pizza( the most basic food item). Drinks were good though. I’m hoping this is a glitch in the matrix. I don’t want to have to travel to Cheshire or Downtown New Haven for decent Italian. I know, I know 1st world problems.
Well I used to visit this place for dinner at least twice a month, I truly forgot why I stopped doing that, When perusing Facebook last Wednesday I came across an old post reminding me about dinner out at this establishment and I have to say it did not disappoint the food was spot on the drinks were perfect and the service was timely even though extremely crowded with a large Party going on , Once again I will be visiting Amici's Back to my regular twice a month dinner's out,... I'd like to recognize and employee Hannah for her outstanding service .. I recommend if you want an incredible dining experience to please make reservations and ask for Hannah you will not be disappointed .. her knowledge of the menu and recommendations were spot on...
My boyfriend and I went over for dinner last night. We sat down at the bar, the bartender took at least 10 mins to greet us and then looked annoyed when we took less than 1 minute to get a drink, even tho we never got menus or a code bar. Then the manager came by and said he would grab us food menus, which he never did. We waited 20 minutes and decided to look online since we still had no menus (mind you the restaurant was not even busy). We decided on what to order, and when we told the bartender our order, she told us “the kitchen closed at 9” it was 9:10 and we were there since 8:30. The restaurant hours on google maps said it closes at midnight. At no point the bartender nor the manager told us the kitchen was closing. When we told the bartender we were there for dinner, she just shook her shoulders and said “sorry” with a smile and walked away. I’ve never been so disrespected at a restaurant before. With all of the customers and staff being white, I can’t help to notice how racist they were to me just for being Hispanic.
