Though we are locals, we had not eaten at Chimayos since pre pandemic days. Back then, we used to like weekend brunch there, but they are only open in the evenings now — which is a shame. We always liked queso there, so we ordered it tonight. It still contained fantastic cheeses, but too much grease. My wife spoke to an owner, who was like “whatever”. Now we didn’t want anything comped and we’re only trying to be helpful. Otherwise, service was very good, but prices were inflated by 40% to 50% over what we had encountered pre pandemic. It is an unfortunate trend among Durango restaurants to eliminate lunch and brunch service, and price everything on the inflated dinner menus price structure. We are locals in Durango, and this is the start of tourist season. If more restaurants fail to open at least for lunch (and quit closing on Monday and Tuesday) Durango’s reputation as an affordable tourist destination will be damaged.
The moment we walked in we were impressed. Beautiful interior design and layout. We were then greeted by Erin who was marvelous from start to end. Friendly and patient. The food was great as well. Had a pizza appetizer that was full of flavor, crispy crust and great size portion. The rest of the meal was excellent. Wish the cornbread was offered plain and the Brussel sprouts had some kind of balsamic glaze. Woukd eat here all the time if I lived here.
I rolled into town after a long day of traveling and I was looking for a nice place to eat when I came upon Chimayo’s. I sat the bar and Bailey the Bar tender was happy to serve me. I was torn be their Salmon or their Medallions, but with Bailey’s help, I chose the Medallions and I wasn’t disappointed. The atmosphere is very nice and the restaurant was bustling. If you’re ever in town, I suggest stopping by.
Stopped in while on vacation and this restaurant was fantastic! It is pricey, $15 for a bowl of French Onion soup and $25 for pizza BUT I have to say I would pay it again ANYTIME. It was the best pizza and soup we have ever had!! Pizza with pistachios on it?? Who would have thought?!?! You have to give it a try!!
Literally the only place that would accommodate our large group. It service was great but I did not like seeing shared tip pool. That's a disgusting way to remove the point of tips. I had the new Zealand elk. Not sure what was wrong with Colorado elk but it was over cooked. The sauce on it was very delicious though and so was the squash queso thing we ordered. Highly recommend it. Beverages were delicious. I would come back again
We ordered the Elk Chops and Mushroom Tagliatelle. Pair these with a glass of Copalas Directors Cut. It’s Heavenly. Enjoy. Be sure to call ahead for reservations it’s a popular spot as you can imagine.
Great experience in a wonderful atmosphere. Staff was fast professional but fun and seemed to truly be a key piece of the success of the restaurant. I had cedar planked salmon and French onion soup; both were excellent and flavored perfectly
This place is great! Really good food and drink, great wait staff. It's packed ALL of the time, so definitely suggest making reservations. I'm usually a steak/meat eater, but the other day the owner suggested I try the mushrooms tagliatelle. OMG it was so delicious! I couldn't finish it all, beautiful mix of mushrooms and really rich. It went well with the wine I had. Im in town for a few months, this place is definitely my new local favorite!!
We really enjoyed our experience here. Great service even though it was a busy night. We had the steak flat bread sandwich. The steak was well seasoned and tender enough to bite through. The steak would have been great alone and paired well with the rest of the sandwich. The potato wedges were also amazing. The desserts also looked amazing, but we were too full to order any.
I had the opportunity to visit this place whole I was in durango Colorado. The picture is provided with this review.I have to be honest with my review of this restaurant although not all bad but I will let you readers be the judge of that!I ordered a burger with bacon and green chilies added. I REQUESTED A MED RARE. And received a well done. Sure I could have been happy with that but the stomach wants what it wants. So I called the waiter over and explained the problem. He came back shortly afterwards with another burger I was excited and took a bite to my surprise this time it was undercooked almost raw.How many chef's and cooks can tell the difference? And how many of you get offended when your told your wrong. When did the phrase the customer is always right become a thing of the past.Well to sum it up I would recommend this place to my friends and family because even the best chef's mess up from time to time.
