Had a wonderful time at Zocalito, tonight. The Pasilla de Oaxaca was easily the best relleno I've ever had. The stuffed smoked pasilla peppers from Oaxaca served with chilhuacle mole had heat and complexity. Also enjoyed the Smoke & Sweet cocktail, Los Nahuales joven mezcal, and the chocolate mousse made with Mexican chocolate. Mike and Matt are very knowledgeable about Oaxacan food and mezcal. Great interior decor to top it all off. Outdoor seating, as well. Really glad I found this place while visiting Denver.
The folks were super friendly as soon as I walked in and throughout. Shout out to Matt at the bar for the mezcal drinks and to the chef for the delicious food. I hope I get a chance to visit again before leaving Colorado.
My niece and I dined at Zocalito on Friday, June 10th. We were able to get a table quickly as it was close to 7pm. The first thing we noticed were a few fruit flies over the table. I can live with that little annoyance. My niece ordered the Peruvian Chicken which she said was very good, but the mole didn't work on the sweet potatoes (at least that's what she thought they were). I had the grilled vegetables which came with a side of rice. The vegetables were good, but some a bit overcooked. Foodwise, our tummies were full and food was good. The worst thing was the light fixtures over our table - you could see the dust move on them. It was a bit creepy wondering if any was going to fall down into our food. We looked at other light fixtures and the suspended dragons, and they were layered with dust as well. The three decorative mirrors in our dining section were clouded over. Please show pride in your restaurant and get another cleaner to do the details.
AMAZING! My meal was incredible- the PERFECT heat/spice and truly delectable. Will most definitely be back to try ALL the dishes when in Denver next! If in Denver don’t miss out on this gem
Had a fabulous experience here. Got the ceviche, skirt steak and pozole. All were very flavorful and presented beautifully. The wait staff are pleasant and well informed on the menu. Would recommend the red Peruvian bananas for dessert! This place deserves a higher rating than the 4 stars on Google.
Excellent food with a very pleasing atmosphere. The staff was very attentive even though the times have limited the number of staff available. All of the food was delicious from the appetizers to the outstanding desserts. We will definitely be back!
Being completely honest; we did not feel the food was anywhere worth the cost point. Our service was excellent, however the chips and salsa/guacamole tasted store bought, the relleno was soggy with no crisp, the puréed beans were bland, the mole was spicy but bitter without flavor. Unfortunately, there are way better options for authentic Mexican cuisine and a better price point.
Mike and his staff created an amazing experience for my son's rehearsal dinner! 32 of us and every moment and morsel were top notch. Thank you!! When we're in Denver we'll be dining at Zocalito!
Note to the staff: WEAR A MASK. IT'S THE LAW. I'm knocking off a star for that alone. Service started out a little cool, but got more engaged as the meal progressed. The Peruvian Yellow Peanut Mole chicken special was outstanding, which kept that 4th star in place. A delightful, unique place but unless you're the first one there, as I was today, you're taking your chances on getting Covid.
Zocalito is a unique experience of Latin American food. They have a variety of options for tasteful cuisine and always make their plates with flare. It may be on the pricier side but I think it's worth the experience considering the ambience is calm and collective and the staff is interactive and friendly.
