Great Uptown find! We were out for a walk around Uptown after dinner at delicious Nixon Steakhouse and discovered La Monarca. Bought a few tasty wedding cookies and polvorenes (they go by a different name here maybe cinnamon cookies?) and a slice of delectable dark chocolate cake. The cake was light and fluffy which was perfect and not too sweet. Lots and lots of traditional Mexican sweets, (bread) pan, coffees, drinks, and meals to choose. Most items were wrapped and ready for purchase which was nice. An interesting variety of wrapped gift items were also available. Worth stopping in!
I had a breakfast burrito, Cafe de olla and pastries to go. Everything was good and the staff was friendly. The place itself is very clean and tidy. I love that they have pastries already wrapped.
This place was very quaint and cute. They had the most delicious cakes displayed. I took a slice of their Strawberry Shortcake that didn't taste heavy, but very light and yummy. I also had a slice of their dark chocolate cake that melted of goodness in your mouth. We went in for some mothers day goodies. You can order for pick up, they even deliver orders nationwide. They have cute Pink conchitas for mothers day, and gift sets packaged and ready for you to take home. We visited their uptown Whittier location off Green leaf.
Pan dulce is a little on the dry side compared to something you can find at Vallarta or similar grocery store. Pan elote also dry and a bit bland, though I did like that there were corn kernels baked in—however, they all sank to the bottom, which means the batter was too light in comparison. Try coating corn in flour or making a denser batter (more corn meal).Great variety of coffee drinks! Wonderful guayaba pastries and cake slices. Savory breakfast items like the chorizo torta taste fantastic.
Tried various cake slices from this bakery. The fillings and frosting were delightful but was disappointed by the dry texture in the cake slices. The coffee drinks look amazing. Will return to try a coffee drink and other bakery treats. .
This place is your best choice coffee stop in Whittier! The staff are incredibly friendly, the coffee is amazing, and I love the wedding cookies and pan dulce. I purchased the Mexican hot chocolate and I can’t wait to try it. I highly recommend this bakery and I hope you enjoy it as much as me!
The torta with green chile green beef is really good! I also had the machacha and chorizo, those are good, not bad.I love the bolios and the beans, made very well!Great service, they are really present and willing to help.Conchas are interesting, made differently, but still good.Coffee drinks are decent, if it was just a bit better, this place would be 5-star.
The customer service here is hit or miss, as is the coffee. We typically make our way here from OC for the oatchata latte. However, out last visit has a questioning whether we'll be back anytime soon. The coffee tasted burnt with a fiery common taste - completely undrinkable.Conchas, puerquitos, polvorones and other pastries are tasty.
Vanilla fruit cake was delicious for a birthday. Made for us on short notice as well. Thank you, La Monarca!
Cakes are amazing and the café de olla is pretty good! Really cozy spot.
