This was my 2nd time at the restaurant. The employees are great. I really enjoyed the place. Wasn’t a lot of people in the building. The tequila punch was delicious. The fajitas were good. More veggies not a whole lot of meat on mine. My daughter got carnitas and she got way more meat. Only 2 things I would say need to be worked on: 1. The seat had food all over it. I think someone needs to go they the place and make sure all tables and chairs are clean. Also, the flies like of kill my joy at this place. Not that it stinks or anything. It’s next to a creek so they do get a fair amount of flies. Otherwise, when I get back in town I may be back. I leave full and happy.
I think management needs to provide some additional training to their servers. Our server never asked if we wanted another round of drinks, and we had to ask to have him clear our plates and bring the check (after waiting a long time).Unfortunately we weren’t thrilled about the food either (with the exception of your guacamole!). We felt the dishes had way too much cheese and was over salted… maybe we’ll have a better go if we visit again next time. We’re a pretty laid back group, but wanted to provide feedback so you guys can do better. We loved Maria Maria’s and want to love this restaurant, too.
I was so exited that El Charro was in Walnit Creek. I was so upset when they closed during the pandemic. This as stated on their menu is NOT the same El Charro. The service was spectacular but the food tasted bland and had no flavor. They had marked a total of 5 or 6 items on the menu that were originals so I ordered one of those items and my companions ordered non original items. We were all in agreement that the soda tasted like soda and the rest of the food tasted horrible. Don’t go there for the food. Don’t go there expecting El Charro. I am sad that El Charro is gone forever.
Great service, really uninspired food. I was looking forward to trying out the new El Charros, but I wouldn’t return. This is definitely American style Mexican food, which I normally love, but here I just found it to be very bland. It looked and tasted generic, like Mexican food you might find at Disneyland. The guacamole tasted store bought. The place is lit with strong purple and green lights which really killed any possible vibe. The lighting made the food look blue and the place feel cold. But the waiters were really attentive and kind.
I had the birria tacos and the plate came out so hot I couldn't even grab them for 10 minutes. They were super soggy and salty. Very disappointed. Also don't expect to have a glass of wine here. They have two options "red" and "white" and both come out as cold as the beer. There are much better options in Walnut Creek. Go for a margarita on a hot day in the patio but go somewhere else to eat.
El Charro in name alone, the service was great the atmosphere was wonderful! My carnitas fajitas were great. However, the butter was not the same (very blue cheese) , and the chicken was bland enough that my partner worried she lost her taste. The salsa and guac where amazing. Our waitress was wonderful and treated us very well.
Really fun and lively place! Warm and welcoming too. Food was awesome. And the spicy margarita was delicious. Portion sizes also were really good. Not crazy...like I could have eaten my 2 item combo there, but chose to take some home. My husband had the carnitas and it was a BIG portion. And it was all super tasty. We brought home the cornbread too and it was really tasty.
We had a wonderful time at El Charro! The service was excellent and the food was delicious. We sat in the bar area and the vibe was great. I ordered the Quesabirria tacos, and oh my goodness, they were amazing!! The chips are warm and salsa was on point. Great food, cocktails and service. Can’t wait to come back.
Food was authentically delicious and the drinks were excellent! Love the vibe and the decor-tequila bar is top notch! Can’t wait to go back!
Fantastic restaurant all around. The decor is so fun and inviting, the food and drinks were delicious, and the service was amazing. I had the Cadillac margarita and the mole enchiladas and would recommend both. The mole sauce was very complex and the chicken inside was all white meat and very tender. Everyone else at my table was impressed by their food and drinks as well.We went on a Saturday night and the place was popping! The new owners did a great job reviving a legendary East Bay eatery.
