I want to like this place. I really do. The burgers are good. Some of the sides are good. But it's a BBQ restaurant and their BBQ just isn't very good. But it's the only BBQ place near me so I keep trying. For awhile I figured out that the brisket sandwich was pretty good, so that's what I would always order. But lately, every time I go in, the brisket is dry and tough and I just can't do it any more. I easily smoke better BBQ in my backyard, but sometimes you just want to go sit somewhere and enjoy the atmosphere and a nice meal. I have sadly given up on When Pigs Fly.

I grew up in the south (not Texas) and have been looking for solid pulled pork in the San Diego area for almost a decade. The pulled pork sandwich here was the first one that reminded me of home. The sauce choices were good, but not necessary because the pork stood on its own. So happy to finally have a good bbq spot that is not all brisket and beef ribs!

Friendly and helpful staff. Food was prepared in a timely manner. Lots of seating options if you’re worried about personal space. I asked about the menu and the girl at the counter (didn’t get her name) was super friendly and offered me the lunch menu, and explained it would come with a side and drink like I wanted. I think she was working the counter and tables on her own, so it was nice to see even though she was busy, she was friendly and took her time to explain my questions. I visited yesterday 2/7/22 around lunch time. GREAT & FRIENDLY SERVICE! Thank you.

I drive 45 minutes to this bbq place and never regret it! Some of the best baked beans, sausage and brisket I’ve ever had! 3 meats, 2 sides and cornbread for 20 bucks can’t be beat!

This place will be good when pigs fly! Overpriced, no flavor, rude kids working. They use lard which is animal fat in the cornbread gross tasting no white meat chicken everything is dark meat in the pulled chicken which I ordered and they brought me pork, she said “that’s what’s on the recipe” I said great but he took it down wrong! $89.00 down the drain!! The Dr. Pepper was good.

Great food can't wait for the auxiliary place to open up again just more convenient for me

We came for dinner at 6:30 pm. I love the menu and they have all the standard dishes you'd expected at a BBQ restaurant. The atmosphere is good and the staff was great. The three of us tried everything. The pulled pork was wet with what tasted like a red sauce and vinegar blend and was a little too salty. I would have preferred to have seen some bark in the meat and added my own sauce. The ribs were slightly undercooked and stuck to the bone. They appeared to be Saint Luis cut and meaty as expected, and the flavor was good. The brisket was a little dry but tasted good. The beans, slaw, potato salad and mac-n-cheese were all good. We enjoyed our meal however we will probably not get the pulled pork again even though we love Carolina style. In all fairness, this is a good place for BBQ and they may have had an off night with the shoulder.. We are familiar with BBQ and smoke meats often, plus my wife happens to be a certified BBQ judge.

The hubcap burger was really good! Fried cheese is always a win! The pulled pork and tri tip were also good but I thought the burger was better. I wasn't the biggest fan of the BBQ sauces but they were okay - I like a more vinegar based BBQ sauce and these were more tomato based but I didn't dock any points for that. Overall it was a good meal and will likely come back for another burger!

The food is amazing!! I would recommend this place to anyone. Only reason I'm not giving it 5 starts is because the staff although super friendly seen more interested in talking and joking in the kitchen. They did bring the food out super quick and it was slow so I'll give them that. It's a very nice environment. Definitely gonna eat here again.

Great food, great atmosphere, great people. You can really taste the difference in how much they care about every dish.The portions were definitely large enough for the wife and I to split the two meat dish which is perfect for our future date nights or more than likely afternoons, because we aren’t people people. ?By far the best bbq we’ve had on the west. Thank you for the amazing food.
