Me and my family went for dinner on 6/2.The overall service and food was poor. There were maybe 5 or 6 tables for 2 waitresses and 1 waiter. The older waitress was helping the biggest table which was an 8 top in the middle of the room. The younger waitress was helping 1 table in the corner near the guitarist and the 4 top birthday party in the other room. Which left the waiter with us and another couple and yet it took forever for anything. Also, this place is a better winery/tasting room/ bar than restaurant.my mother and step father arrived 10 minutes before me and my girlfriend arrived. After 10 minutes of our arrival, a waiter approached our table, asked my step father if everything was good. The waiter didn't look or noticed that there was anyone else at the table. After staring at every waiter/ress, the older waitress finally stopped at our table and asked us how we were. I asked if we could order something to drink, with her response was "sure"... My girlfriend is not a wine drinker and prefers sweeter wines and when asking the waitress which of the rose was sweeter, i swear she just looked at the two that they offer and chose the one with the bigger description. The Rose was not remotely sweet. For food:The charcuterie board was about 8 inches long and 3 inches wide. Had 6 grapes, 6 candied walnuts, lots of bread, 3 large salami rounds that looks like it came from a deli counter, 3 mortadella? and 3 bright red pepperoni? a small cup of vinegar, a small slab of cheddar, a small quarter of some cheese infused with port wine and another infused with sage (it was bright green) for $20.Crab cakes $18,lettuce wrap, margarita pizza. We were here for 2 hours.
So welcoming, friendly and professional, yet laid back and very knowledgeable about food and wines. Love this place. If we ever come back to California (due to government regulations on tractor-trailers, we will not be returning) definitely be dining here and bringing friends. Thank you to our server, host, and chef we had an outstanding time here. A way to taste wine on your own with unique wine dispensers that keep the bottles sealed and at the correct temperature. Just a great experience all around.
The Place- Very cool. It looks like a cave inside and if you like the wine they have their own wine store attached. The Service- Friendly and got to meet the owner who was very nice. Highly recommend!
Music and ambiance was perfect meetimh up with friends.
The Cave is an awesome little restaurant connected to a wine & bottle shop. They focus on service and probably some of the best food you'll find anywhere in Ventura.A wide selection of dishes from a friendly Chef who knows what he's doing. Truly a hidden gem if you're looking for a really satisfying meal. The Cave burger is amazing!
Chef Gary is back! He's the original chef, and the food is incredible- soups, salads, small plates, pizzas, pastas, entrees, wine, and dessert! Intimate atmosphere and wonderful service. On one occasion, ChowNow didn't reflect the current menu and so my order wasn't what I expected when it was delivered. I got a call back from the restaurant and was told that they were making the extra dish that was no longer on their menu for me and would deliver it as soon as it was made. Wow. Kudos to the new owners ?
The food left A LOT to be desired. My risotto was crunchy and oily and my shrimp wasn’t fully cooked. My husband got the corn clam chowder which tasted fine but was runny, more like warmed milk, with carrots, potatoes, and maybe a few clams. His seared tuna salad had flavorless tuna and overly vinegary dressing. Wine tasting is closed due to Covid so your openings are wine by the glass, which we’re very few, or wine by the bottle. Overall the experience was lackluster.
I genuinely love visiting this love! I simply love the ambiance of this because it is very relaxing and makes you forget about all your worries in life! I am so glad I found out about this place!
This is my favorite restaurant in California.Excellent food and service.
This afternoon 2/13/2021 we went there to pickup wine and order food to go. The lady who assisted me with the wine was very helpful and friendly. The food however, was the polar opposite experience. The to go order took FOREVER, and when we got home everything was very overcooked (Chicken Panini, Fries, margarita pizza). The real kicker was the Manager and waitress were having a work dispute and exchanged 4 letter words in the back My wife heard the whole thing and was VERY uncomfortable, to the point of wanting to cancel the order, but we had waited so long and were hungry. Very unprofessional to say the least!!
