This was one of my favorite places to eat in Ventura. But, sadly, the last couple years have been awful. First, the food quality went way down. They worked on it and it has improved, but now it is the employees. I am not sure if it is just inadequate training or the old hire family thing, but service is bad. The last 3 times the cashier could not find items on the register. And the last time she way overcharged. When I pointed out the problem, she 'corrected' it and told me the new price. My fault that I did not look closely at the receipt, but I was still charged the much higher price. It is going to be very hard not to go there because I do love a couple of the items, but if I do, I will be very, very careful.
We live right down the road and this has been our go to for means on the go. However the last three encounters, have been pretty bad. Twice now we have called in our orders and when we go to pick up they have forgotten to make them. We always ask for onion and cilantro, and lately they never add it. Even things like guacamole or sour cream, we’re charged for and don’t get added. The third time, we tried calling in around 6:30, knowing they close at 7. We called about 5x with no answer. When we pulled up at 6:45, we watched the cashier change the open sign to close. 15 min early… so I asked him if they were still taking orders. Luckily he did help us, however, again we were still missing add ins. Once or twice I get, they are human too and we all make mistakes, but it’s sadly becoming more consistent and makes us reconsider ordering from here.
The service was pretty off putting. The cashier just stared at us silently and barely listened to our order. We didn't mind it too much, but the food is inexcusable... We got burritos and the lettuce in it was strange. It was sweet and kinda overpowered the rest of the burrito. The flavors were meh and the carnitas are dryyyyy. Pretty regrettable purchase

Been coming to Fresh Grill since the dawn of time (the 90’s) and to this day it remains among our favorite takeout joints around. For reliably good service and good tasting food at fair prices, you can count on Fresh Grill Ventura
