We celebrated my husband’s birthday. It was a beautiful place. The clam chowder was delicious.
Wonderful meals…. Loved the Cioppino
This location is literally right off the exit of the freeway. So as you enter the hotel, to the left is the freeway and to the left of the freeway is the amtrak and the mountains. To the right of the hotel, there's the ocean. Parking is HORRIBLE. We were so lucky that there was literally 1 spot left and the parking spot was a tight one. They have a few extra spots but are ONLY for the restaurant. It's a little raggedy place. The guy that checked us in was sweet. We got there at 6:30 and he asked if we want reservations for dinner since he said the next closest place was in santa Barbara. With that being said, no way were we going to lose are spot so we made reservations for 7:15pm which was the next earliest. The guy at the front desk told us we can leave but recommend us to be back by 10pm, he also said assistance at the front desk will only be there til 10pm. We chose to stay all night.Checked into our room, number 6 and it was literally right next to the hall where we checked in. The bottom floor is the restaurant, then you have the "first floor" and second floor. As we entered the room the carpet looks a pretty dirty..we just had to kind of ignore it and not stand too long. We had the king bed. There is NO AC. So we had the fan going on all night with the windows open which brought in the ocean wind. Windows also couldn't even lock though...It feels a little nasty so we closed the curtains but let the window open just so it wasn't too hot. We were a little worried about passerbys or strangers. Sleeping through the night with the sound of the waves crashing at the shore was nice. The restaurant was okay. Ordered the scallops over risotto and Idk if the scallops were cooked with garlic or what but I felt like it tasted a little burnt. Still ate as much as I could. It was like ~$42 for my plate and ~$40+ something for my friend's lamb ribs. The fried calamari was okay with the help of the lemon as the aoili sauce was ehh. Dinner was okay I guess as we sat and watched the sunset. Couldn't really see the sunset because it set on the far end to the west and couldn't get a good view. Also heard the waiters say the pool was heated? Didn't get the chance to test it but it also the water didn't look clean. Some debris were inside. The room is manageable. Or enough. Definitely did it for the enjoyment of views. And the pricing of the place wasn't an arm to 2 legs. Would I do it again? Probably.
Scenic, nice staff. Rooms need better beds. Awesome pool and tide pools. Beautiful views and delicious food. Bring snacks
Absolutely one of the worst places I've stayed! Property is old & tired, but more importantly not clean, and seems seedy. My husband's nightstand was sticky; carpet was gross; bed was rickety. Had a horrible night's sleep as there no a/c, and it's right on the highway. Between traffic and construction it was noisy as hell if windows were open, and had to because it was too warm otherwise. Thank God we only booked one night! Would have gone elsewhere but we arrived on the later side and hotel is out there by itself. The only upside is the ocean is beautiful, but you can do much better. Skip this one!
Wife and I stayed here last weekend 4/30/22-5/2/22 and we were absolutely blown away with the ocean view we had which is why this spot gets an outstanding rating. The room accommodations were adequate, comfortable bed, fridge, TV., we did not take part in the restaurant that is attached to the place but it seemed to stay busy and it has a good rating plus it has tables right on the water. As you can see from the photos, this place is a real gem!
This is an older property, but it has a stunning location and grounds. Sometimes it is hard to believe you are right next to the highway….No private balconies, however. Unfortunately there is not a microwave in the room, and not even a coffee maker. And there is no coffee provided in the lobby. Both would be good, considering the price of the hotel rooms….There was a very unpleasant worker who actually yelled at my husband when he went down 10 minutes after the breakfast had ended, to get more coffee! We had seen this same individual being rude to two other guests at dinner the night before….However, the restaurant is great- good food, not overly expensive and a beautiful setting. Guest parking can be very tight, however. The provided breakfast is limited and starts at 7:30, which makes it difficult if you are leaving early. The daily maid service is nice, and quite a rarity these days! Overall, we would probably stay here again. I just wish they would at least get room coffee makers, if not microwaves!
View of the ocean and pier, with outside dining or inside at the Shoals. If you get there towards midday, it's sunny and warm enough to sit on the patio. We got there earlier, so had to sit inside. Food was good, but it was the view that wow'd. Be sure to check out the pool with lounge chair view of the waves below. The Cliff House had multiple flower arrangements using their own garden flowers, and you can see one in the fountain photo. Very friendly staff and servers.
Spectacular meal right from the appetizers to desert. Definitely a do again!
Wonderful service, lunch selections, and service. The location can’t be beat. Have lunch with friends or family! Plus porpoises.
