I’ve admittedly never eaten here but I’ve been reading the reviews for this place and will never eat here. I understand that places can get bad reviews from time to time from people who are unfriendly. However, I can tell by the way the owner of totos’ responds that the customer service is lacking at best. Talking to customers in a rude manner is a sure-fire way to lose business, and if you want your restaurant to do better I would work on that first. Much love <3
I am pleased to have wandered in here bc I have been wanting to try African food. Plantains I was already familiar with, but they also offer things I never heard of like fufu, Pomo, or amala. It seems some items are available only on certain days, so I suggest to call ahead or view the official menu to confirm.
The food was absolutely delicious! The red stew was sweet, savory and just the right amount of spicy. (Which was on the vegan menu, came with the side of fufu.) Fufu was nice and sticky, hand pounded yam. Plaintains came as a side item, very caramelized rich and sweet with a beautiful consistency, perfectly ripe.If you want a full meal with Okra and fufu it is around $20, but this is authentic and yummy. Delicious and unique flavors. Will definitely try again.
I was so excited to try a new African place but i was unfortunately so disappointed. First of all there was terrible customer service. We had to wait a few minutes for someone to come out and take our order which I didn’t necessarily mind since it gave us a moment to scan the menu. However, the woman who came out to take our order seemed to be uncomfortable with our presence for some reason, as if we were intruding. I ordered egusi and she asked me what kind of meat I wanted. Since I had never been there before I asked her what my options were and she told me “it’s on the menu”. I decided on chicken and although the interaction was awkward I wasn’t too bothered by it at the time, I was so excited to get home and try the food. The food was so underwhelming and unnecessarily expensive. I ended up paying $35 for a singular portion of stew and fufu with two scoops of rice (enough for 1-2 people) The price wouldn’t have even been a problem if the food had any flavor but combined with the attitude I’m just disappointed. I wouldn’t recommend this spot, it has 3 stars for a reason.
Man in store is cool and friendly but light skin lady making the food is so rude, disrespectful, not smiling, aggressive and lack manners of approach. would have say some rude words but the man gave a nice approach.
Extremely racist towards white people. I was denied service despite being in line behind another black customer. They claimed to be "closed," but had no problem serving a customer that I followed in as they entered this establishment.
After going and eating the food! It was great! So now I wanna go every week. 10/10
The food tastes bad , the lady is very rude and disrespectful, she age discriminates, she tried to double charge me , she asks for Identity to pick up food, shes agressive , confrontational , and throws insults at customers. I wouldnt advise anyone to go to this place.
It's difficult to find a place both pricey and lackluster. Was hoping to find some decent fufu and egusi in the area (since the closest kitchens are in Inglewood), but was sadly disappointed. Got the spicy peppered goat and egusi... Wasn't bad, but certainly wasn't good. There was no soul in the egusi, let alone any indication of spiced nuance you would typically expect. The main flavor was overwhelmingly salt... And the cow's feet/tripe was not properly steeped, giving an unpleasant odor. The fufu was closer to mashed potato, than the expected pounded dough texture. At least the peppered goat was actually spicy. We figured, give it a chance.. how bad could it be? Turns out, we should have trusted the reviews here. It really says something when an owner doesn't take any accountability, but rather points fingers back at their customers!(Not to mention, could have gotten twice the food for half the price at Veronica's Kitchen ?♀️)
I got takeout with my mom here yesterday and it was so good, and I love how they marked our vegan stuff vegan so we wouldn’t have to sift through the bags
