It doesn't matter which location you go to, the atmosphere, quality and taste at The Hat remains consistent. As per my other review of The Hat in Brea, if this is your first time here, the Pastrami dip is where it's at. Although the title says "dip", the sandwich is not really wet. The French roll comes with mustard, pickles, and of course, the thinly cut pastrami ...and it's messy in the best kind of way.The chili cheese fries come in a huge mound of goodness, but not overly greasy. Adding onions equals extra deliciousness and will easily feed a few people. To help cut through the saltiness, an Orange Bang will do the trick.Prices are fair, staff is friendly, food is served quickly but hot, and the place is old school but clean.
Chili Cheese Pastrami Fries please. The Hat is one of those SoCal only places. Burgers, Fries, chili, pastrami and more; all are great. The portions are fairly large so keep that in mind as one pastrami is probably enough for two people. Same goes for their chili cheese fries. You can keep that in mind and fill up the family and keep the cost low and still have a great meal. You can order some simple things for young kids here too. Grilled Cheese sandwiches, hotdogs and basic burgers. So you bring the whole squad along. My favorite thing is is the Chili Cheese Pastrami Fries. I split that with someone and that still really fills me up and need a nap after. You cannot really go wrong with this spot
Not at all like their other location I've visited.Skimpy portions dried out buns 4 thin slices of pickle on a pastrami missing half its meat for what they charge and not their original recipe and bland discount mustard. They built themselves on quality food and large portions at fair prices and now seem to be doing the exact opposite.Last visit for me there's too many other options when paying almost $25 for a sandwich fries and a Coke.Period.
First time I have ever gone there and was the only person at the counter. I don't believe it has anything to do with the pandemic but of the price hike of everything. I have been going to the hat for over 60 years and have to think twice about going again. My friend and I really had a taste for pastrami so we ended up buying one and sharing it the price is higher and the sandwich smaller. $11.99 for one sandwich. Goodbye Hat it was nice knowing ya.

Always delicious..... little more bizzy sundays.. but all in all its great
Pastrami dip still the best in Southern California. Chili cheese fries are delicious and massive. Tasty burgers also, can't go wrong with any order here.
Burgers, Hot dogs, Chili, and their world famous Pastrami. It says it all on the outside of their restaurant and it's exactly what you should expect when you go in to order. All of these foods sum up what they do best, and I can assure you that it's the best. I grew up going to this The Hat and their quality hasn't changed in over a decade. Pastrami is one of my favorites foods and I frequently get it from other restaurants. Other restaurants do it well, but nothing matches what The Hat dishes out. If you're new to the area, I'd highly recommend that you give this place a try.
