Tastes really good. Minus one star because they served the food too slow (>30 mins) & restrooms were not well maintained (no hand soap, some units didn’t have toilet paper)
We paid almost $70 ordered one frogs combo, we stayed home then when we opened the lid, most of the takeaway boxes were the side dishes that we paid for extra money. The frogs were particularly rare, and the frog meat was very shredded, and the extra money for enoki mushrooms was only a little bit, which is really not worth the price.!!! We were disappointed! Never give a bad review, this time I am very angry, if I can, I don't want to give a star!
This used to be super popular in China about 6-7 years ago and I was super glad it came to the US. I've been waiting for the Bay Area one to open for a couple of years already. Anyways this was one of the restaurants I wanted to visit right away in my recent food trip to the SoCal area. The food tastes about the same. For those who doesn't know it's mainly a twist on hotpot that instead of hot pot they use a simmering pot with lid to cook fish/frogs or other meat. The sauce is the special ingredient that makes it all worth while. I normally would recommend either the catfish or the frogs. Use the signature sauce which I found I prefer it over the spicy ones even though I normally order spicy sauce in other restaurants. Nothing to complain except the price is high but I prefer higher price than not having the choice at all.
This spot never fails to impress. They serve great food for affordable pricing, there is no waiting time even when the spot is loaded.
Food was delicious but the service was really slow. They cook the food and that takes easily 20-30 mins just waiting for the food to cook. If we knew ahead of time, we wouldn't ordered before we got there.
Just OK. Expensive and little portion. There are better restaurants else where.
This is a little known hole-in-the wall tucked away in a plaza that has a couple of high-profile restaurants. For this reason, this restaurant is very underrated and often overlooked. That would be a mistake. This restaurant is a one-hit wonder, and that wonder is delicious. The main dish is a huge pot of food with rice/noodles and vegetables plus whatever meats and extras you order thrown in to make a huge casserole/risotto, and the carefully blend in a signature sauce that is to die for. The price is reasonable too. This has to be one of the greatest secrets of SGV, and I highly recommmend it.
Tried the seafood and meat bowl. Meats were not tender and shrimp wasn't fresh. Special sauce was OK but overall not satisfactory.
If you want some decent Chinese food with the best quality & fresh ingredients, you definitely should come and check out this place. The price is great at what they offer. You also have options to make the steamed pot (the main dish) into vegan.
Smell better than taste.
