My friend recommended Madras Café for authentic South Indian food. It was so delicious! I ordered the tomato dosa and loved it. Others also said the mysore masala dosa was their favorite. The dosa portion sizes were generous and they came with 3 chutneys and sambar. The restaurant was pretty busy when we went on a Wednesday night, but the wait was worth it. Would love to come back.
My friend recommended this place to me and WOW, they have so many dosa options... They also have idly, uthappam, paratha, and more! They have outdoor seating and a spacious indoor dining area. I came right when they opened at 5:30 PM on a Thursday and the restaurant was already pretty full. You order at the counter and they bring your food to your table. Our food took about 15-20 minutes to come out.I recommend the Cheese Dosa! So cheesy! It's nice and melted inside, so you get a nice cheese pull from it. The Masala Dosas are about 1/2 filled with potato and onion. So don't expect the whole dosa to be stuffed! They make their dosa very thin and crispy, it is also served with sambar (lentil soup) and various chutneys. I personally like the red-colored one the most! The coconut and green one were just okay.
Chutneys were too bland and I did order Uthappam and it was not fully cooked, after I informed them they did replace it with a new one but it was still uncooked. I did inform them again and they asked me If They could replace it with anything. They were kind but the taste was not so great.
Loved the Idli Puddu and Ghee Masala Dosa. Mysore Masala Dosa is really delicious too. Loved their Sambhar and Tomato Chutney. Have been here thrice in mere two weeks. One of the best authentic South Indian food I had in California. Filter coffee is a must try :)
Indian grocery store with extended options for South Indian choices. You can find most of Indian brands here with variety of choices. The vegetables are fresh and variety options.Next to this, Madras Cafe restaurant is one of best food options for pure Veg.This place has ample parking spaces.
Easily one of the best serving South Indian restaurants in Bay Area. I have been here multiple times and their rava dosa with chutneys are the best. Their channa is also very tasty. Must try if you’re eager to get some good South Indian food.
Authentic South Indian Breakfast! Very fresh food and fast serving restaurant! Be ready for little bit wait time on weekends. Several beverages are also available to accompany your breakfast. We had filter coffee and tea. Nice seating areas. I prefer to go here so many times.
Podi dosa is good. Sometimes. Chutneys are nice. Vadas are tasty. But the sambhar is quite awful.
Amazing food. One of the rare places where everything on the menu is tasty. The filter coffee is really good. I was surprised to eat such good Chhole bhature at a South Indian restaurant. A must try! Amazing food, quick service. Authentic Indian vegetarian food.
Good experience at the extremely popular Madras Café.We decided to reach at the opening time 8.30 am from ~40 miles away, because we didn't find a seat on a previous afternoon visit. They run out of space pretty soon, I heard.Sambhar and chatni were okay. I was expecting them to be a little more typical. Dosas, Uttapams, Idli and Medu Wada were amazing. Very delicious!Filter coffee wasn't up to my expectation. Either the coffee was too strong or the sugar was less sweet, even after adding so much of it.My FOMO is over, finally. I would recommend trying if you are in the area but travelling specifically for it isn't needed.
