After all these years, finally ate here and it wasn't that bad.Chicken fried steak and eggs were alright. Nothing too crazy special.Steak chilaquiles were flavorful and spicy.Huevo con chorizo y papas- my new go to. Always tastes great and on point. Always hits the spot.
Wrong place, wrong time.I will do my best to be positive. The staff is polite and treated me well. The food (a dinner meal) had a couple highlights, but brought more serious detractors that make me wonder if they even consider the food they put out.The decor and restaurant condition are terrible, and it looks like they are barely covering costs with the prices they charge.Specifics:+The fried chicken dinner brought some very good chicken (4.5 out of 5 for flavor and quality. & 5 / 5 for portion size.)+The baked potato was perfectly done at my early 5 p.m. visit, with plenty of butter and sour cream on the side.+ The garlic butter toast was very good, and definitely not corporate pre-made frozen.4.5/5.- The mixed veggies were so bland and overcooked that they were ignored after the first bite. It seemed like a frozen blend, boiled in muscle relaxers until last call at the convalescence hospital. Darn it, I wanted good veggies and these were epically bad.-The salad was an anemic blend of lettuce and leaf spinach topped with a 3 inch wide cross section of a tomato with a still-green core, three white raw onion slices, and two full beet slices on very small plate with a dressing cup. (To eat it, you must do surgery on top of the lettuce mound to core and dice the tomato, then slice the raw onion and beets, then mix --- not attempting a toss...) on this small plate... mission impossible. Then you top it off with packaged saltines that would come with soup. The dressing was good, but this entire salad is a flop. 1.5 / 5.-The decor is straight out of 1987, with silk plants, worn-through tabletops, a destroyed dirty carpet, and wood trim that looked like a vintage diner in the middle of Iowa. Not common in a city with many restaurant options.I saw black smog/dirt/Mold!?! on part of the popcorn ceiling, and they need some serious cleaning and repair to the building.I do feel bad to write a hard review of the place. I see people rave about the breakfasts, so I might reconsider a to-go meal. The staff was pleasant. Some of the food was great. If they put some thought into actually eating the meals they serve, they might do a lot better business.
Great people, good food steak and eggs all day for me.
I'm surprised I haven't already reviewed this place. Gunter's is BOMB. A classic American diner with that experience. Waiting staff is friendly. Food is good and portions are...well...American haha. My family loves coming here for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Great place to grab a stack of pancakes and coffee.
Not what I remember. I had the crab Benedict, and it was OK. The crab was fresh, but there was no flavor. And this dish was beyond drowned in hollandaise sauce, but there just wasn't any flavor. This is a childhood eats place, so maybe I just can't top my memories as a kid?
Best, best, best breakfast place hands down. Super big portions. Ma and pop style restaurant. Yummy... if your looking for a good home cooked meal, look no further.
I love this place! Great breakfast and coffee! Service is friendly and quick when they get the order. I’ve been here with different family members and it’s always been a good experience.
Great coffee, nice atmosphere, warm service. Not just a time capsule, but a good restaurant. Worth the quick hop down from SF.
Absolutely delicious! Service excellent. All the plates served to surrounding tables looked great and huge servings.
Very active restaurant. There's a real sense of community here as you can probably tell a lot of the customers are locals. It has a 50s to 60 style kind of mood like diner style. I had my cup of joe, and an omelet with sausage on the side. Needless to say I was very satisfied with the quality and expediency of the food. It did take a while for the waiter to actually notice me for me to order. But once I did order it it came out pretty fast and they offered me a lot of free coffee refills. It's around the medium range for Price what you expect. I would definitely come here some other time for breakfast.
