Dined a few days ago and I was truly satisfied with the food. Everything was absolutely spectacular...the service??? Very disappointed, I understand it was busy evening, but the service we received was definitely not FINE DINING...perhaps your servers can brush up on their attentiveness!!

OMG it was a taste explosion in my mouth. I had 1 visit before and I trusted my meal would be good inspite of my worries about the choice of ingredients. My halibut was served with a broiled cantaloupe and blueberry puree. It was an exotic taste experience. It was amazing. I will totally be back and will trust the chef. The prawn appetizer was also a delight.

This is a complete dining experience. I felt special throughout the evening. Food has outstanding flavor and presentation. Highly recommend for a quiet evening.

Had dinner while in town at Evan's American Gourmet Cafe very good overall, great service, nice dining room , old remodeled house , good menu selection , great food and dessert, we enjoyed it -excellent

We were pleasantly surprised to find Evan's in South Lake, a region that is not known for fine dining. The food was creative and well prepared, with a large number of daily selections that were fresh and beautifully presented. We had soup, fish, and creme brûlée - all of them were very tasty. They also have a full bar and a good wine list. Service was friendly, even though a bit fast-paced for us. The only caveat, in COVID times, is that the small restaurant has absolutely no ventilation. Customers were, predictably, unmasked as they were eating. The staff was, surprisingly, mostly unmasked as well (with the exception of the hostess), even though current state regulations require indoors masking. Post-COVID, one day, this will no longer be an issue - until then, make your health decisions accordingly.

This place is over priced and under delivers. Seems to be run by a husband and wife team that are more interested in hosting their friends than crafting a gourmet dining experience. Feels like an awkward extended family gathering in this small space rather than a gourmet dining experience. After arriving at the reservation time my party was required to wait around another 15 minutes for our table.. not a huge deal but it was strange considering there were many vacant and ready tables available... but they did not know us and they wanted to seat us at a currently occupied table that we ended up SHARING with another party... This isn't advertised as the grab and go dining up on Heavenly so why would you have parties sharing tables with a small 1 chair gap in between? Did we forget that Covid is still impacting us? We were so hungry we chose to overlook all of this and then were immediately disappointed in our meals... they weren't inedible but certainly lacked the flavor and composition of the kind of restaurant they represented themselves to be. If you are thinking of coming here do yourself a favor and go to Riva Grill on the lake or heck even Base Camp Pizza by the gondola for more flavor... Will not be back but they will not care as long as they have a few friends who they can make to feel important when they stop by...

Always phenomenal, creative, and satisfying. Evan’s is always on our “must visit” list when in South Lake. This time around, I just couldn’t peel my cravings away from the panko crusted chicken (it is my go-to favorite). My husband ordered the filet. Everything that comes from Chef Oscar’s kitchen is cooked to perfection and our meals were exceptional. We always have to be careful to leave room for dessert and this time enjoyed the chocolate au trois. Also, if you like white wines, the Hanna Sauvignon Blanc by the glass is excellent.

We put Evan’s on our “must do” list every time we come up to South Lake. As many others have said, you would be hard pressed to find better quality dining anywhere. Attention to detail in the visual presentation, ingredients, preparation, and service are above the pale. Over the years, we honestly have never had anything that we would even rate as “meh”. The biggest issue is choosing what to have from an excellent list of possibilities. Though many bring their own wine, we suggest partaking of their excellent selection which is priced very fairly. Be careful not to get carried away and save room for the outstanding dessert choices. They are a must! If you’re in the mood for fine dining, Evan’s is not to be missed!

When my new Bride and I drove to the edge of town and walked into this restaurant I had no doubt that this was the best in all of Tahoe. The service was superb, the food delivery was amazing and the food itself was magical. I've ate at the top restaurants in town but this beats them all hands down. I will be back to rave once again.

Loved everything, what a treat. Have a special occasion you need to experience this place, great ambiance and wonderful food...cooked perfectly!
