This was my third trip to the restaurant. Just like my previous two trips, the food and the service were good. However, when my bill came it had an automatic gratuity of 18% added because we were a party of six. I'm used to that rule being applied to a party of 8+ so, to be fair, I didn't look for the large party warning on the menu. If the waiter had warned me that it was 6+ instead of 8+ I wouldn't have had a problem with it. My bigger issue is that it wasn't 18%, it was 19% and then they charged me tax on the gratuity. As far as I know, tax in Sonoma is 8.5% and the tax I was charged was 9%. I generally tip 20% unless there was something very wrong with either the food or the service so the dollar amount at the end of today's trip isn't a big deal. What IS a big deal is the underhanded way they got there. The way they charge their customers is super shady. I won't be back.
Had dinner outside on a busy weeknight. Food was plentiful and good. Staff were efficient and helpful in ensuring a gluten free meal. I would definitely return next time I am in the area.
We loved the guacamole and salsa, especially the white salsa. The burrito grande is enormous and delicious. The pork cooked in a banana leaf was tender and juicy. The waitress was very friendly and informative, thoroughly knowledgeable in the history of the restaurant. Give this restaurant a try when you’re visiting Sonoma, you won’t be disappointed.
What a gem of a restaurant! Enrique (I think that was his name...I'll blame the fuzziness on the well made margaritas...hahaha) was an incredible bartender, was an encyclopedia on tequila and mezcal (fantastic selection, by the way) and really catered to specific palates. Plus, he's super entertaining and friendly! Nachos were spot on and a bonus because of happy hour pricing. Definitely come here for the margaritas and stay for the hospitality and atmosphere! The only negative is we live in Ireland and couldn't take Maya Restaurant with us! ?
Cute Mexican restaurant in the heart of Sonoma. The service was fast and the staff were friendly and attentive. The food was good for the most part. Their rice and beans were not a favorite for me and in my opinion were a little bland. Everything else tastes great.
High prices for a very poor quality menu. Beans and rice were tasteless. Ceasar salad locked dressing. Nachos plate was again poorly made for the price we paidNext time I will go to a Taco truck instead.
We had planned to eat at a different restaurant but it was closed on Tuesday as were many other food places in the Sonoma Plaza. We were able to sit outside on the patio which was lovely. The wait staff was very overloaded but they were kind and kept smiling. They were doing their best for sure. The food choices were plentiful and were all very good. The portions were very large and the prices were very reasonable. There were lots of choices for proteins, kinds of beans and tortillas. So many more choices!
I went with my partner's family for his birthday and got sloppy on pomegranite margaritas. Clean plate club. Excellent service. Good chips and salsa to bouey you to their quality specialty dishes. I was with a group of people with a ton of wierd things they wanted done to their food that weren't on the menu and weren't related to allergies, and Maya rolled with it. Made no mistakes either, because it seems that they have known culinary battle with the plump and picky sonomites for quite a while and understand that the customer is always right even if, and this is true- the best way to enjoy everything on their menu is without modification, if possible. And if you do go, have someone order the tortilla soup so you can all try it.
Unbelievably good nachos. Strong mixed drinks. Super friendly staff. Everything on the menu tastes great. Nice atmosphere inside.
