Shrimp and crab tostadas are delicious- service is okay

I have been here a bunch of times, it’s right down the street from me. I always order the lobster enchilada and table side guac.Food does take a while to come out.Normally I am so high and drunk from so many margaritas that it doesn’t matter. It’s not the best Mexican in town, Mexicali is better but this is where Leo and Brad went…. So I go here now.

I LOVE CASA VEGA!! When I lived in the valley, only minutes away, I took my mom to dinner here and it was great. We had the classic margaritas and chips and salsa. Their guacamole is made fresh next to your table.I love their tortillas, perfect authentic Mexican cuisine! As a chef, I appreciate the tastes of tradition passed down to the next generation. The enchiladas and tacos are excellent. The ambiance is the best. I just saw the restaurant in the movie "Once Upon A Time In Hollywood". It reminded me of good times as I watched Leo and Brad do their dinner scene. I cant wait to go back and I'm glad they survived through the pandemic shutdowns..

First of all, the food is absolutely delicious California Mexican. The kind of Mexican food I grew up on in the American south: gooey melted monterey jack cheese, tasty refried beans, crisp house-made tortilla chips, fresh salsa. The kind I cannot find in NYC, much to our chagrin! I had the platter with cheese enchilada, chile relleno, rice and beans, and ordered a bean burrito to go. Everything was absolutely scrumptious. The servers are warm and friendly, fast and helpful. You can tell they take pride in their work and are treated well. And finally, the interior is a gorgeous trip back in time, well preserved original 1960s decor, dimly lit and atmospheric. I cannot wait to go back. Bravo.

M first time here and is a great place, really good food and Miguel was so nice and polite. The whole time he was very attentive to our needs. Thank you Miguel

Nice dark romantic old school kind of place. We initially did not like our table but our waiter and manager quickly accommodate us. The waiter was great, the food was a big portion and the drinks were good. We ll be going back there soon!

Food was very good. Sat outside which was nice. Wait staff was nice, however, around 11:30 pm they started to rush us out the door even though they close at midnight. That was highly unappreciated as we were there celebrating with friends for my daughter's birthday.

VALENTINE'S day dinner was a little disappointing. The waiter, a young man with a high, brushed front combed hairstyle took our drink orders, and never came back to the table to see if we wanted anything. We caught the attention of an older, more courteous waiter who supplied us with more chips while we waited for our dinner. The enchiladas, one of which was not cooked thoroughly I could not cut it as the bottom was rubbery. I put that part aside. The strawberry margarita, which I just had on February 3rd, was not the same. Whomever was tending bar between 6:33 and 7:00pm was obviously stretching the alcohol as he forgot to put any teqilla IN the drink. The margarita was basically whipped strawberry foam ice. That bartender was really off his mark, or did not know I have been to Casa several times before and know what the margaritas are supposed to taste like when fixed properly. The waiter that originally took our drink order finally appeared with the check, and inquired if we wanted desert. "ARE YOU OUR WAITER "? I asked, "BECAUSE WE HAVEN'T SEEN YOU ALL NIGHT"! "I WAS AROUND", he said. "NOT AROUND HERE", I said as I pointed to our table. We left more than the $5.00 another customer left for a tip who had the worst service ever they said. We did not tip what we normally would, but took into consideration the OTHER more competent waiter may share in the tip.

Coming from London you'd like to think I wouldn't know how to cook better Mexican, but I do! I have been to a lot of Mexican restaurants in England, Florida and Bahamas. The Salsa was really nice that comes with the Totillas but the tortillas were ok'ish! The waitor had a sense of humour failure and went off in a huff, how petulant and unprofessional, seriously grow up! The mixed appetiser was all deep fried and tasted the same, really poor. I ordered the 'made at your table' guacamole but instead got a bowl of green that just tasted of mashed Avocado, quite frankly I make far, far, superior guacamole. A English man could teach you better...seriously its embarrassing. Then lastly thinking it couldn't possibly get worse we tentatively ordered a beef burrito just to share...just in case.... Terrible, your get a better burrito at Taco Bell or Walmart frozen section. The drinks were good, but the food and service was very poor. Look at the pictures they don't look appetising. Very disappointed was looking forward to it so much.

Is Casa Vega touristy? Yes. But that’s probably the reason why you are there so you shouldn’t be shocked at it being busy, rushed service, expensive, etc. I thought the food (while overpriced) was great! They have all the classics and any of their combo plates make a great meal. We started off with the Tostada Chiquita, which is kinda like a taco salad on a tostada? It was worth going back for by itself. The restaurants decor is classic and really makes you feel like you’ve stepped back in time. Service was good, but a bit rushed. We never had to worry about drink refills or plates being removed. I would come back in a heartbeat!
