Duck Confit & the Artichokes tonight.
Ahi starter, Duck Confit and Chicken main. All superb though the plates were cold and the food was warm to cool (obviously great for the sashimi less so the main course). Gluten and dairy free was well dealt with. Pleasant and knowledgeable waiter. Good service in general.
Great place to eat if you want to get gouged and walk away hungry. If you think it is okay to order a $32 cheese board and get 1 ice cube size cut of blue cheese, Brie and Gouda cheese then you will love this place. We laughed when the cheese board arrived! We did however get two slices of bread with the board and when my dad asked for butter we were told it would cost 4$! $4 for a side of butter - never in my life have I had to pay for butter that is like having to pay for cream and sugar for your coffee!?? I was very embarrassed for my dad and honestly felt very taken advantaged of by the dining experience. My brother in law ordered oysters and said they were the smallest oysters he ever had. I will never ever ever go back. I have also never written a review so I don’t know really know how this works but I want to warn as many people as possible this place could take your money and leave you very disappointed like me.
Michael's has been around for 43 years or so. I have been going to dine there thru the 4 decades nev we have i had a bad dinner. This times was exceptionally awesome. European white asparagus, Duck confitt, 28 day dry aged rib eye and cheese course. Paired great with Rudd wines. Service was impecible.im looking forward to my next visit
The food was good but the service was awful. I went there for Valentine's Day and they literally just forgot about us. After sitting there for about 90 minutes we flagged our waitress down and asked her if maybe they had forgotten about our food. She assured us that it was on the way. About 30 minutes later, we finally got our pasta dish, but we still had not had our salad as they had forgotten to serve that dish. After 3 hours, it was getting quite late and we had to leave so we asked for our check an did not even get the dessert that we had paid for. I understand sometimes service is not great, but if you are pre-paying a 20% gratuity you should at least get served your food! On top of this, they offered to comp a glass of wine for the wait but when I got the bill the glass was there! I would not have ordered it if I knew I was going to have to pay for it. We needed to leave so I did not dispute it. Food was excellent. Service was the worst I have ever received.
Service was ok- waited about 10 minutes for a server to even come over. Beautiful place indoor and outdoor. I recommend getting the cheese plate, the short ribs, halibut and the crème brûlée.

family birthday, 11 guests, no one was happy. We were told because of the number of guests, we would have to have a special prix fix menue, which was lackluster to say the least, 3 courses: one salad, no choice; 3 entrees to choose from; a few desserts, none very impressive, pretty run of the mill. Not one of us truly enjoyed our dinner as a Michelin restaurant should, with an owner who is so supposedly stellar. The erotic art on the walls was able to be dismissed, but in the upstairs ladies' bathroom child pornography could not be missed - disturbing, discusting, damn near criminal. While we ate, a loud argument was happening not far from us at the front of the restaurant. A few thought the unhappy patrons wouldn't leave a tip, but those closer realized that the patron was saying the tip was the only thing he was willing to pay - not the food bill itself. Hmmm....that said it all. Plenty of other great restaurants in Santa Monica. Our family is one of sophisticated world travelers/foodies and not one of us will ever return to Michael's.
Great classic SM restaurant. Been there many times and every time this place delivers. The food, the service and the ambiance are all an A+. The crowd is older which I like and the joint is just plain classy. If your looking for a great date spot and your not afraid to open your wallet, then go here. CA at its best.
