received a very warm welcome from the host - she is the nicest and most helpful. all staff are super friendly. seemed like there were lots of regulars when we went, so that goes to show that the place is well-liked. our combination plates were between $16-$17; the tacos were bigger than your usual tacos/street tacos. the rice could be a bit softer. the "diablo" salsa, which what i enjoyed the most, was apparently made daily by different waiters, so you would know who made the salsa depending on the day you come when you become a regular diner.
Delicious, down-to-earth, and reasonably priced Mexican food (probably best described as classic CalMex style cuisine). It's no wonder that this place has been around so long and remains so popular! Every item that we've tried on the menu so far has been very good and the beans that are served with every dish are especially delicious. My wife and I crave this place regularly!
I've only recently discovered Gilbert's El Indio and couldn't be happier! It's a great family-run restaurant with a nice patio for outdoor dining. So far, I have had enchiladas, a HUGE burrito, and amazing beef crunchy tacos. A full bar serves cervezas and margaritas, among other libations. I'm going back next week with a friend. We're determined to sample the margaritas this time! ??
We dined here on a Friday evening. This place gets very busy. In fact, if you arrive after 6 PM on a weekend. you might have to wait 60 minutes for a table. But this is worth the wait. The ambulance is very nice and the staff are very friendly. The outdoor dining is very comfortable. Also, the food here is good and reasonably priced. Not a huge amount of parking beside the restaurant but probably plenty of free parking or nearby streets. overall a good dining experience.
This a Mexican restaurant like those I remember from my youth. Good basic food; burritos, tacos, enchiladas, rice and beans. Nothing fancy just good comfort food. Nice outside patio with heaters. Good service.
Amazing family owned staple for authentic Mexican food on the west side. The enchiladas and homemade flour tortillas are to die for. You could tell the family puts everything into the food and service. A real treat.
My husband and I have been here once a month for the past 5 months. It’s amazing! As someone who’s from Mexico, I’m always nervous to try “Mexican” restaurants but I was so pleasantly surprised. It’s basically really delicious Tex-Mex (Cal-Mex?). I always get the plate with an enchilada and a tamal, and the beans are the best part. Portions are big and it’s overall just no frills comfort food that’s super tasty.
Muy amable los meseros y atienden muy bien.
Christmas Eve grocery shopping early and stopped at Starbucks on Lincoln Blvd and asked for a nearby Mexican restaurant open for breakfast. The staff and a customer simultaneously said “Gilbert’s on Pico!” Parked in the back but had to wait to be seated due to all tables occupied. Once seated, we decided to order huevos con chilaquiles y frijoles and menudo for me. They only do menudo on the weekends. The chips were still warm and came with salsa which had a nice kick to it. Before 10am, both items are $10.00 each. Upon removing our table, server said we’d get a discount for cleaning our plates. JaJa. Must return to try the Enchiladas Suizas. Nothing fancy, just down home Mexican cooking. The real thing!
Went here on a recommendation of a family member. Service was disjointed and a bit disorganized. I ordered Steak Fajitas and another person in our group ordered Steak Picado. We ended up receiving two Steak Picado orders and no fajitas. Or the normal extras that go with fajitas like sour cream or guacamole. Had to ask for tortillas. My wife’s super burrito was large but lacked.
