What's for lunch? Zoccoli's Italian Deli. Another local fav with the best sandwiches and bread. I go back and forth between a basic turkey sandwich, but today I was craving a French dip. This deli is awesome, they have a variety of specialty sandwiches, desserts, cheese, and even wine. They are located in downtown Santa Cruz at the end near the town clock.They do get crowded at lunch time so you may want to look online and pre-order so you don’t have to wait too long when you arrive.
Today.. April 23, 2022.. between 10-11am. I arrived with happiness in my heart.. and Hungry..I had eaten one Time before. When I bit my sandwich I expected the same delicious taste I had before. Instead I spit out the food.. I saw greasy burnt bacon. Nasty. I took it back. The reply was would you like a two dollar refund. Not sorry we have a Nasty cook. I felt like throwing up.
I've heard this place was good for over a decade now when discussing deli options in Santa Cruz. So, I was a little surprised when I decided to give it a chance and noticed they only used microwaves to prepare hot sandwich options. I haven't had a good Muffaletta in a very long time but thought I could try it cold or heat it up at home if needed. I was very disappointed to discover that the sandwich wasn't served on the traditional muffaletta bread but rather a hoagie roll...maybe I missed the menu description "muffaletta hoagie", but I don't think so. You may know the sandwich has a key ingredient of olive tapenade, this too was disappointing as it didn't resemble anything like an actual olive salad/tapenade. Overall the sandwich itself failed miserably to represent an authentic Muffaletta...and with microwaves being my only option for a warm sandwich, I doubt I'll be revisiting this place again. However, I will say the staff was very pleasant.
Ordered a Castroville Italian sandwich. Found it underwhelming. Maybe I’m spoiled by east coast delis but this sandwich was small and mediocre. The bread to filling ratio was too high, so had to take it home to add more sauce and veggies. Also don’t think I got prosciutto, just salami (the salami was tasty on its own). Would maybe try a different sandwich next time. They also have lots of drinks and other grocery items for sale. Service was friendly and paid street parking was easy to find.
Ordered castroville sandwich and taste is great - the bread, meat, n pickles are fresh.
If you are visiting downtown Santa Cruz, this is a great deli for sandwiches. I ordered a basic turkey sandwich and what I believe is their homemade macaroni salad, both were very good. They also have beer and wine. I also thought that the prices were reasonable.
Here for a family wedding. I am from Florida, and my nephew was in charge of finding the best places for food and lunch was on the hunt. We decided on sandwiches and he found Zoccoli's. We found street parking and headed inside. It was a busy place but it was quick and easy to order. I got the BLT with avocado. There is plenty of tables outside but we opted to go back to our hotel to eat in the beautiful courtyard. I was so happy with my selection. The bacon was crispy and the tomato, lettuce and avocado were selected for the makings of the perfect combination. The rest of my family loved their sandwiches too. This is definitely a go-to sandwich shop. Btw- it's a little store too, so getting chips, chocolate or something else is an option.
Great sandwiches at a fantastic location. Located at the beginning of Pacific Avenue and side walk seating, it is one of the best places for lunch. Fast and friendly service. Must stop when in Santa Cruz.
This is my first time going to this place and Debbie recommended me the Italian club and it was phenomenal hands-down the best sandwich I’ve ever had in my life I am going to get so fat because of this please do not pass this place up fresh pasta fresh lasagna’s best Italian Deli in Santa CruzLOVE YOU GUYS
This is the only place in Santa Cruz that comes close to the New York deli's I loved. ?They are fast, friendly and efficient as well.
