It's always iffy to find a good sushi place when you're on vacation. My family eats a lot of Japanese food at home, and we found Shogun to be a lovely restaurant. The food was delicious and fresh, the service was friendly and personable, and the prices were good for the amount of food we got. Whenever I'm in Santa Cruz and want sushi, Shogun will be the place I go!
Miso soup was great, not too salty. Shogun poppers were excellent, jalapeño with salmon, spicy mayo, sriracha, and cream cheese. Donkatsu was also good with huge amounts.
Pretty good food. I liked how seaweed salad is called ocean salad here. I almost missed it. Unfortunately I think the food caused me some stomach turning the next day and I felt nausea. Was good nonetheless. Some of the rolls are unique and I wish I could come back for some more.

Delicious, fresh, and tasty food with a variety of sushi flavors. This is definitely my favorite sushi restaurant. One of the best sushi places that I have been, in the last 20 years.

The food was good and large portions. We ordered a salmon collar. It was like a whole serving of salmon. I ordered the sashimi mix with hamachi and sake salmon. The presentation was beautiful. The slices were generous portions. A great deal for that much sushi. We sat outside. They have heat lamps. I would go back again.
