Best place to get a basic breakfast with out breaking the bank. $3.50 for biscuits and gravy. $5 for the basic breakfast. they have a swing outside my daughter loved sitting on while we waited very shortly. The old hippie van in front is open to eat in also which we took advantage of.
2nd time visiting the resturand after it changed owners and I can assure you I will never be back. The man behind the counter clearly hates owning and runnig paulas. He has a horrible additude towards other staff and literally every customer that walks in. The first visit I still ordered my food after I was ranted at for 5 minutes about answering a work phone call. While I ate I had to listen to him chew out every customer that came in after me. The second visit I didnt even order food because I was yelled at for approaching the counter to look at the single menu while he was cooking. He has zero prople skills what so ever. Ive never witnessed someone trying to make a buisness fail harder than this man. DONT EVEN BOTHER.
Great all American breakfast choices. Place is small so for large groups you may need to wait awhile.
Love this place. I appreciate the reasonable prices, the cash only, the cell phone discrimination, and the no f*cks given attitude. I’m not from Santa Cruz but I came back to this place cuz this city is pretty artificial feeling sometimes (from an outsiders perspective) and buying a 5 dollar breakfast sandwich from some old head in a tiny surf themed kitchen is a grounding experience in today’s world.

From 5 star a year ago to now 1. Landlord bought restraunt from previous owner. Not as good anymore. New owner has a bad attitude and handles cash and food without wearing gloves or washing hands between. Never again.
The man at the counter was extremely mean. I have never experienced such bad customer service. He was so mean to my mom that I was left speechless. He was so upset that she asked if bacon was included in the breakfast and went on a huge rant about the cost of bacon. Among many other various rants that we overheard him giving to all the customers about the atm, cleaning up after yourself etc. It was a painful experience. We have visited Paula’s every time we are in town and I will never be back.
Places like this amaze me. Obviously the guy running the joint hates the place. It can’t possibly be making him a lot of money and the food was so god awful he’s clearly not in it for the love of the game. So you just ask yourself “why do they even bother?” Just sell the place and move on. It would be better for you and for anyone who has the misfortune to accidentally walk in to your place. Whatever love you had for this place is obviously long gone. Truly awful.
Coolest little neighborhood spot. Food is cheap and delicious. Pancakes are huge. Atmosphere is great! Good people. You can tell everyone who comes here is like family. Can’t wait to come back for some more French toast!
The food was beyond delicious ! Even has a van you can eat in . Reminder it's cash only . But there is a ATM there .
