Lulu Carpenter's is a lovely spot to grab breakfast or brunch. They have so many options both sweet and savory to choose from. If you haven't tried the bacon wrapped egg yet you really should. They serve all the classic cafe coffee and tea options, and from my experience they are made very well. The staff are mostly very friendly but not always. The inside dining is still closed but they have some tables and chairs out front for customers. I highly recommend stopping in next time you're in downtown Santa Cruz.
Both our food and coffee were underwhelming. The cappuccino was okay (not great) but our sandwich and burrito did not get finished.
I ordered 3 different types of coffee beans from them. Only 1 of them were correct. They never responded to email or FB chat and do not post a phone number. I finally had to dispute the charge with my credit card.
At around 8:20PM on 01/09/21 there was a short girl with black hair working. She was incredibly rude and dismissive. Never have I encountered such terrible customer service at LuLus. Her tone was abrasive, rude and condescending. Despite being the only customer there at the time, she made it clear she was extremely bothered that I was ordering something. I understand everyone has there bad days, I don’t expect people to be extremely happy or talkative. I don’t have very high expectations, I just expect people to be polite. That’s it. Yet, she couldn’t even do that. I’ve been a long time customer of your establishment, this experience was so bad, I honestly don’t want to go there again. At least not to that location.
We went out of our way to get to this coffee because everyone told us this was the best...well 3 messed up orders and 2 tepid coffee's later. I wish I could agree. The flavor is good but I simply can't appreciate it because it's no warmer than spit.
Really nice vibe, historic landmark, coffee is great. Enjoyed full hour in morning with a local band playing classics! Will come again.
I went there once and had some coffee drink with a pulled pork empanada. It was good so some other day I went there again—different drink, same empanada, and Max took my order. I liked it so much I got another one right away. Today I came there for a third time, and Max remembered what I ordered the previous time (I didn't!). I have no words to express what a nice experience it was and five stars are but a fraction of how many I'd like to give. Plus the empanada is criminally good, and the coffee a good match.
Usually my experience at Lulu's Carpenter is great, but today's experience was the worst. I don't know if the barista was in a bad mood, but she didn't even try to hide it. I ordered my drinks and food and instead of handing me card back, she threw it on the counter. Then, she tells me to wait outside. There was no one else in there and there's been other times when it's way fuller in there. Plus, it's funny how she didn't say it to the guy who came in after me, and not to mention, that she didn't say it politely. Secondly, I had asked for my cool cat with whip cream. when she was done, she didn't call out my order or say it was ready, but luckily i was paying attention. My drink did not have whip cream, so i nicely asked if I could have whipped cream. She ignored me and keep getting the teas. I asked again politely, "excuse me, can I have some whipped cream?" she turns around, looks at me without saying anything and turns back around. I waited for about 2 minutes and then just left without the whipped cream. If she doesn't want my business (and i am a regular), then i won't give her my business. There's plenty of other coffee shops in town. Time of order was on Monday at around 12:20 p.m.
Were diverted here when the cafe we went to was closed. A great surprise! Had breakfast and coffee. The staff was friendly and efficient. He told me they Lao bake much if their goods in house. The breakfast biscuit and croissant were fantastic. Good strong coffee. There was seating outside.
While browsing for coffee shops, I'm usually looking for 3 things:1) Coffee variety and house specials2) Vibe3) CoffeeThis place did great in all these vectors!
