Best bakery in Santa Cruz!! You can see most reviews that aren't 5 stars are just people who are sad because they like Companion SO MUCH that they can't bear it when they run out of an item. So even the bad reviews for this place are good. I definitely recommend going if you're in the area. Grab anything they make, you won't regret it.

Don’t get me wrong — I LOVE Companion bread. But that’s the problem. I live in the San Lorenzo Valley, so the only way to get the bread is to either drive to Santa Cruz, or, during the summer and early fall months, get it at the farmers market. However, Companion cares so very little for the San Lorenzo Valley folks that if you do not get the the farmers market early, they sell out. Today they were out of Fluffy White, the only thing I can eat since I’m on a low potassium diet, at 2:30! Companion has expanded to south county too, but has completely ignored their neighbors in the San Lorenzo Valley. The other thing is that the bread, purchased at the farmers market, dries out very quickly. However, if you buy it at one of their retail outlets, like Whole Foods, it is wrapped in a plastic (I know…) bag and lasts really, really well. I can, and will, order Manresa bread from Locale. Same price, but wrapped in plastic and delivered. Early on, I donated to their go-fund-me for a new oven, so feel really bummed out at their disregard for people wanting good bread in the San Lorenzo Valley.
Friendly bakeshop with a lot of goodies. Cheese twist, goat cheese sandwiches on banquette, egg galette, Earl gray shortbread and morning bun was destroyed by me in this shop. Friendly staff and our door seating makes this place even better.
Stopped in the check out all the hype and man I was certainly not disappointed at all. The staff were so helpful and friendly. They offer plenty of options and handful of gluten-free options as well. Grabbed some coffee for home and tried the apple strudel and the cookies - boom chakalaka!!!?? can’t wait to go back.
Beautiful location. Very popular. Many delicious-looking items to choose from. All of the food was yummy. The sticky roll was a bit too sweet for my taste. The buckwheat scone was unique and tasty. The butter croissant was fresh and light.
I really like Companion. I've been coming here since they first opened. I like their products, I like their staff, I like their vibe. There's just a couple things they need to sort out which is why I knocked off one star. #1 - Their hours. What self respecting bakery opens at 8:00am? 6:00 am is proper time for a bakery to open, 7:00 am at the latest. How can you buy baked goods before work or an early morning outing if the bakery doesn't open until 8:00? #2 - Certain baked goods only available on specific days. I can't keep track. Inevitably what happens is I go there and they don't have a Goat Horn, or whatever, which is what I really wanted, so I end up leaving empty handed. Sometimes I'm not sure if the Goat Horn is there, so I don't go at all. So, dear Companion management, please open at 6:00-or even 7:00- and provide Goat Horns every day for a 5 star review.
Best bread in town! (The walnut bread is fav anywhere I'm the world.) This place is fantastic - you can't go with with any of their baked goods.
One of my favorite places to get baked goods in west Santa Cruz. Their bread is delicious. I also recommend the garlic cheese twists, they’re the perfect bread snack.
One of the best bakeries in the Bay Area. It features a very nice selection of breads, cookies and pastries. The cinnamon palmiers, with a hint of cinnamon are truly excellent. There is also a very nice selection of sandwiches (preparred with an excellent crispy baguette). I highly recommend the goat cheese, pesto, and arugula sandwich. It is highlighted with delicate and slightly sweet pickled onions. The avocado toast is also a very good choice.
