Been coming here for like 7 years, their price went up significantly but the service has also gone up. Servers were increasingly accommodating, repeatedly checking if we needed more side dishes. One down side is that the check is hand written in Korean, (with a very brief list of what's ordered with no price listed) which I guess a lot of people don't understand. We ordered an extra steamed egg but never got it and they still charged us for it. We will still be coming back given the taste and service. Check your orders and your bill!
I love hosting Korean BBQ with my friends and this was out good bye dinner to my good friend Keenan. We went to ToBang in Santa Clara. It was family style with large portions of food. We got combo C and B , which was hella food for six people. We had an amazing time eating and talking with each other. The KimChi fried rice was ??. The waitress was nice enough to cook for us too. It was delicious and fresh meats. They also gave us Korean yogurt to cap off our meal. Definitely coming back.? ToBang in Santa Clara, CA.
Great value for kbbq and variety of side dishes make this place somewhat underrated.Staff is always friendly and attentive and make you feel welcomed.Nice touch at the end with the yogurt drink
We have been avid fans this place for 7 years, always coming often before pandemic. Then we left town & recently returned & thought bout this place. So Tonight we came for an early dinner to be rudely greeted by this short Asian female with long pony tail, she acted like we are wasting her time just entering the restaurant. Then, serving of side dishes was quick, but the meats & others were not. The same female was unmasked while the rest of the older staff whom I recognize from yons ago were all masked. Then she exclaimed & repeatedly said that tofu banchan can only replaced once, when we only asked once due to a vegetarian kid in our party who ate the 2 small pieces of tofu & asked more. She acted like we are still wasting her time(1/2 empty restaurant) & was just a miserable grumpy petite person. Then we were shocked when all food were already cooked n put into a to go box for us on the table, like we came for Korean bbq to cook on-site but ended up eating take out on site when others are all cooking around us. The ultimatum came when she gave us the check way too early as if to rush us, when tables before us weren’t given. And the upsetting part for the kid was that every other table around us, has the after food dessert drink, one per person. But our party of 5, has 2. So the elementary kid bravely went to ask the same rude unmasked female staff if he can have enough for the party? She said no. She said it will cost him(an elementary kid) extra money to purchase a free after meal dessert drink. I mean, it’s one thing to be rude to adults, it’s a whole different ball game to be bullying a kid over a free(tiny) fake yakult. Kid came back and asked why it’s so weird today that every other table had one each and we don’t? And we used to always have one each before pandemic as regulars. I said I do not know and will asked. Rude, unmasked, female staff with long pony tail came with an annoyed face and acted innocently, like I didn’t see her confront my elementary school kid who bravely asked her why because his baby siblings were sad. She said, oh, the boss said so. It’s only a meal for 2 persons, so u guys only get 2. I have to state we didn’t get the cheapest meal. We were feeding 2 preschoolers & a kid, and NOT with the cheapest meal. We shouldn’t be made to feel like beggars in a place where we used to be regulars. We can afford that stupid dessert drink from any Korean mart. But with her attitude from the step in, from serving, from bullying my child into paying her extra for a free after meal yakult, I will forever boycott this place and make known to all my friends to nv step foot into here again. Utterly disappointing and disgusting behavior from one staff that makes me want to puke. We didn’t finished our meal cos she singlehandedly ruined our appetites. She needs to be fired. Bullying a kid to weasel $ off a free yakult? When every other table has a Yakult per person? Come on…
I can’t believe I haven’t tried this place before. We got combo for two with pork belly and beef belly it was pretty good and service was great.
The place for authentic Korean food. Drawback is that there is always a wait to order or dinein. Other than that this place has good food, but not when you are very hungry because you will have to wait. I take all my out of town buds here for some good food and good lookin ladies.
We wanted to try Tobang for quite some time but never had the opportunity until last night. During a sweltering heat wave in the bay area, much too hot to cook at home, we found Tobang to be a great option to do takeout. They offered a fabulous 2 meat meal with sides that was more than enough to feed 4 persons for around $50. Their web site makes it so easy to select your 2 choices of meat and to specify the desired pickup time. We opted for their standard bulgogi beef and bbq chicken as our meat selections. The meal includes a tasty seafood pancake, nicely fried with loads of succulent seafood and veggies as well as a steamed egg that brought back pleasant memories of the dish my mom used to make for us. The meal was complimented with an assortment of side ban chan dishes (jap chai noodles, spicy tofu, kim chee, sea weed, and more. The food was ready for pickup at the scheduled time and i was in and out in less than five minutes. The food was enormous qualtity and so pleasing to the taste. Meats were marinated in wonderful flavor and we were so glad to sample everything in their fresh lettuce wrap and daikon wraps that were provided. We found the blend of flavors and textures to be unique and certainly great tasting. We felt fully satisfied and happy with the entire meal.
Had a great time here, great food and amazing service. I'll give it 2 Thumbs up ? ??
Tobang is so Korean, you’ll feel like you’re at your Korean aunties’ house. It’s so Korean that all of the employees are probably related. It’s so Korean, the wait staff will talk to you in Korean before English. It’s so Korean that you might walk away smelling like Korean BBQ.To start off with, Tobang is a la carte, which is how it should be. They portion sizes are perfect for any group (you’ll get to choose from a few sets), and every table gets a TON of side dishes. The most notable side dish was the Korean seafood pancake. It was pan-fried to perfection, and EASILY 10x as good as any other seafood pancake I’ve ever had. It actually blew me away. But the BBQ is what keeps this place afloat. The wait staff will cook your meat for you, and honestly - that’s how I want to be treated when I go out. I want to be a Korean emperor. Or a Korean grandfather (filial piety is a thing right?). Okay, I’m exaggerating a little bit. But surely, amidst the chaos (what family isn’t chaotic), they’ll make you feel at home.
