The food and presentation here were excellent! I got the soft shelled crab appetizer, deluxe chirashi, and sashimi omakase. The fish was very fresh and delicious. All of our dishes were presented beautifully! I definitely want to come back and try their kaisen don.We chose fancier dishes to get so our total was more expensive, but there are definitely less expensive dishes on their menu.My only complaint and reason for a star deduction is that their tables are super sticky... I did see the waiters wipe every time someone left, but I guess the tables weren't deep cleaned enough? It was very off putting. The bathroom was also quite messy. For those two reasons I think my next time eating here will be to go and not dine in.
An above average Japanese restaurant with a variety of low budget omakase choices. Foods are well presented when they are served to spice up your appetite. This location is very popular and you can expect to wait 30min~1hr on any given day. However, they do not take reservation for group with less than 6 people. However, Rantei could really do a better job to respect their customers' time. When you arrive, they will ALWAYS give you a lowball estimate on your wait time. They told us to wait 20mins and we ended up waiting 1hr and 20mins. So did many other customers and you can visibly see their frustration. I absolutely hate waiting around and wasting time just to eat. Sadly, waiting to eat isn't unique to Rantei but it is something that I wish all restaurant would stop doing. Please adopt an online system so people can better use their time while they wait. Or take reservations for all party sizes. It is especially disrespectful to deceive your customers in order to make them wait around for no reason. Shame on you Rantei.Plus, on my last visit, all four of us had to make a trip to the restroom a few hours after our meal. I suspect it is from a bad fish. I am hesitant to revisit this restaurant in the future.
Atmosphere: 2Food: 1Cost: $200+Overall: Will not return. The decor was ok. It looks nice in the pictures but once you arrive, it was kinda small and you need a large group to use the Japanese style seating. We got 2 Omakase, a dragon roll, Victoria roll, short ribs, mussels. The Omakase was $60 and had a raw fishy taste, in a bad way. The shrimp was slimy and the rice kept falling apart. The rolls tasted stale. The short ribs were burnt and full of tendons. The muscles were ok.May have been my worst sushi experience.
Really fresh sashimi. They are very popular so you know the fish is always fresh. We have been coming to this place before Rantei moved in and I'm so glad they kept the decor because the private rooms in the back, they're all custom built with the Japanese influence. Not a single nail was used. When you're there next time, take a look!We tried their yakitori skewers. Everything was grilled beautifully, seasoned well. They even offer the grilled mochi with bacon! Great place, great prices. Next visit, we'lltry their wagyu. It looked amazing.
Will return to Rantei for Japanese cuisine cravings! Had a wait but was worth the wait!! Place was full house which is a good sign. Service was great and great great fresh sashimi and nigiri!! Craving for more now!
Came here with friends and it was def super popular. We waited for about an hour after putting our name on the waiting list. But staff was very friendly and nice. Chicken karaage was alright but the sauce that it came with was really good. The salmon crunchy roll was good. The Kaisen Don and the omakase sashimi was amazing. Fish was very fresh and delicious. I loved the salmon, amberjack, and the roe. I usually don't like uni but it was actually delicious here. The flavor was actually a nice sweet ocean salt flavor.
Wow, wow, wow. What a treat. One of my girls took me here for an early bday din. She insisted we arrive early. She was right.Get there before they open, or be prepared to wait 1hr+. But man was it worth it! Agedashi tofu was beautifully coated to give you the crisp without the thick batter. Dipped in the sauce. Perfection. Garlic edamame. Pungently garlicky in all the right ways. The sashimi omakase with a side of more sashimi don. Melt in your mouth pieces!Mm mm. Can’t wait to return. 5 stars!
We had sashimi omakase. Half of the sashimi were very good, and the other were average. It came with real wasabi so that was a nice surprise. The yakitori was pretty good too.
Rantei is an interesting spot. They seem to be crowded and every item on their menu looks right. And the service was impeccable too. But the food unfortunately falls flat.We got the omakase sushi and omakase sashimi. Some of the sashimi smelled a little fishy. But the bigger problem was that they all tasted the same. There seemed to be no distinct preparation. All the fish tasted the same. They all tasted like wasabi and soy sauce. The fish themselves disappeared into a chunk of flesh. The Kaisen don on the other hand was actually pretty good. The ikura, crab and the otoro were top notch. We also got a chicken thigh skewer which was pretty good too.I'm thinking about sticking to the hot foods the next time I come here, cause everything else about this restaurant was pretty good.
The fish was so fresh! Definitely worth the price!
