Fantastic Italian place that is a gem in the middle of Santa Clara. We found this place while driving around looking for an Italian place for dinner. The ambience and the friendly staff immediately helped me settle down and the plane was busy as well. They bring our fresh bread with roasted garlic while you wait for your food and needles to say they were both delicious. We ordered a portobello pizza and artichoke stuffed ravioli. One of the best pizzas I've had so far and this place beats down the ones in mountain view and San Francisco. Do go here if you want quality Italian food with a nice ambience.
We had 3 dishes - 1) Ravioli Trio 2) Gorgonzola Gnocchi 3) Cheese Tortellini with Chicken and we had a clear favorite....+ Service was excellent. John our server was amazing, friendly attentive, even our sassy 4 year old was all about John (or Red as friends call him)+ Portions were a good size+ Flavor was great in every dish+ Creamy sauces did not feel overly heavy+ Pastas were cooked perfectly- the only con was that one of the utensils had a bit of food stuck to it we noticed when we picked it upFavorite was the Gorgonzola Gnocchi - the radicchio sauce, spinach and walnut blended perfectly with a perfectly cooked gnocchi.Chocolate mousse was devine!
I've been eating here for 25 years and each time I find a new favorite menu item. This joint is everything a neighborhood Italian restaurant should be. Atmosphere, staff, menu, value and chefs are all first-rate, top shelf. The owner, Johnny, really knows what he's doing and the chefs are pro's happy to do their work in the open kitchen. Everyone here cares -- that's obvious from the start. My latest fave is the chicken cannelloni with cream sauce. The bruschetta is a great opener if you have the appetite. Nice wine list, too.
This is our neighborhood restaurant where my husband and I typically order our usual selection and are never disappointed. However, we dropped in for lunch this week and decided we would change things up. Instead of dipping the fresh ciabatta bread into olive oil with roasted garlic cloves, we saved ours for getting every drop of the excellent sauce supporting a mix of clams and mussels, seasoned with chunks of tomatoes, chopped leeks and magic. The server cleared our plate of shells but left the serving plate until it was clean. A generous serving of perfectly prepared calamari fritto misto would have been sufficient to complete our meal, but we went large by splitting a panino which was accompanied by a generous Caesar salad portion. The salad and dressing was punched up a notch by the basil oil dripping from the panino and delicious. Our server was laughing by the time we were requesting take-home containers to hold our panino which had but one bite taken. And that was so memorable that we finished our "halvesies" for lunch the next day . . . no additions needed. If you are in Santa Clara CA . . . drop into Mio Vicino.
I was very disappointed. My food was not editable. I ordered fettuccine Alfredo. The dish was noddles and copious amounts of olive oil.The coagulated heavy whipping cream that topped the noddles told me my dish had most likely been reheated from yesterday’s scrapings.I would have been better off grabbing a selection of frozen dinners.
OVER PRICED & BLAND FOOD!$19 for tortellini that taste store bought like the kind you buy in a box. The chicken was DRY! The presentation for to-go orders is awful. The other thing was $21. I was tricked by the reviews. I will NEVER go back. This was my experience as a to-go / take out experience.
Great staff. Food was good, very large portions.
Ordered fettuccini with roasted chicken and meat lovers pizza and a glass of wine. Was very disappointed overall. Both dishes were bland along with the wine. Chicken was dry. Pizza meat was bland as well and way too abundant. Bread and roasted garlic were cold. Service was kinda slow too. Would not return :/
Pasta Puntanessca....omg. There are 10 dishes I have eaten in my life (and I am 64) that have lit me up as this one! It is now in my top 10. Its a must try. It is fabulous and if I lived in the area I would come back here weekly for a fix. Bravo Mio Vcino! My hats off to the chef.
Santa Clara staple family-friendly Italian Restaurant near Santa Clara University. Service and food are both wonderful. Had to take off a star due to the dusty shelve and dirty dishes near where we sat as it wasn’t appealing to see. However, been coming here for close to 20 years and the food is still delicious.
