This place is a true diner, lots of options and super greasy. The vcmuffin is so bomb and I appreciate the gluten free option. The strawberry cheesecake vcflurry is insane.Their website has been broken for some time so it’s very difficult to find the gluten free options or the menu in general due to this. I’ve had to call a few times. The food is very heavy just as a warning. But it’s truly delightful and a must if you are looking to chow down.
My one and only experience at this restaurant was horrible. Not only do I suggest that you don’t got but encourage your friends to go somewhere else.I was there recently and my experience was so bad, I didn’t know that restaurants were capable of messing up to such a degree. To begin with, I spent nearly $30 on a regular burger with fries and a milkshake and my food was literally forgotten about. I was the second to order in my group of 5 and after approximately 45 minutes (everyone else at my table got their food in under 20 mins), I went to the cashier to check on my food and she apologized saying the kitchen forgot about it. By this point, my table had effectively finished their food when I was finally brought my food. After they offered to put my $12 milkshake in a to-go cup, I found that the plastic cup they gave me was only about half the size of the milkshake I would have gotten had I chosen to have the milkshake in the restaurant. After having my food forgotten and only getting half the milkshake I paid for, I expected the professional courtesy of at least an apology (I understand that working in a restaurant is stressful so I wasn’t expecting any compensation but forgetting food is simply unacceptable in the restaurant industry and an apology is the least I expected).Aside from my food, we had to ask for waters upwards of 4 times until we finally got some and that was after we had finished. The food here was decent for a vegan diner, but at the given prices and current levels of customer service, I wouldn’t recommend anyone come here. To be honest, if the food was cheaper I would understand a small mix up, but when I pay $12 for just the burger alone, I expect high quality service and that simply isn’t what I experienced.Overall summary: The food was good but the service was so bad, I cannot justify ever returning to this restaurant.
Great food. Except one mushroom burger thing. The cauliflower was incredible. The jalapeños were unbelievable. So good. The breakfast burrito was great. Tacos were good. That mushroom burger was a zero stars. But the other dishes were so good I just ignored the one bad one. I did have to lower one star because our server was not very attentive
California burrito was EXCELLENT! If you arrive too close to closing time though, menu items may not be available.
Vegan chicken parm tasted great. Didn't see any prices on the menu. Got the bill, quite surprised how expensive it was. If you don't care how much your food costs, then I recommend eating here. If you have to ask how much things cost, you can't afford it. Didn't even come with fries for that price. If you got a sandwich, fries, shake, and dessert, with tax and tip you could be spending $40-$50 for just one person.I don't expect those kind of prices from this kind of restaurant. And there are better restaurants that have much better ambiance at lower prices. But at least I liked the taste.
Food choices around DTSA has evolved very quickly - from authentic Mexican to Vegan and everything in between. Munchies is one of those places even your meat eating friends will like.
When ordering the cashier seemed confused and annoyed at me for my order. After about 10 minutes trying to place an order and telling me the items I ordered, she couldn't find in the kiosk/computer. I end up changing my order because she claimed it wasn't on the menu.As for the food, it was presented decently but flavor wise it just wasn't at all what it looked like or as described in the menu. The taste was very bland for the most part. For context, I order a Chicken Bacon Ranch texture was fine but didn't taste any flavors. My girlfriend ordered Jalapeños Burger and the jalapeños were raw and wasn't sautéed with the burger or cheese. The buns/bread were burnt, dry and hard. They both came with a side of fries. The fries themselves were lacking in the flavor department as well, cold hard cardboard if I needed to describe them.Asthetics wise... the walls looks horrible and wasn't a good look for when dining. It would make us cringe as did the "music" playing, it was a instrumental playlist... at one moment it sounded like I was gearing up for a battle and as the list went on it sounded like I was exploring space. Lastly, the flies were extra annoying several were around as soon as we sat down could only imagine the kitchen...
Amazing vegan food, I wish I can go more often, I was just able to taste 2 different dishes and I just loved them!!! Super recommended
A friend and I are foodies and he shares Instagram posts from Munchies regularly. Unexpectedly, I came to Southern California and found out that this place was only 11 minutes from where I needed to be. I was immediately overwhelmed by making a decision and loved that there are so many gluten free options. I opted for the VcGriddle breakfast sandwich. It was soo delicious!
I've been vegan since the 1990s, so I've experienced a lot. I've always loved diner food as well. Munchies is easily one of the best vegan diners I've been to. Most recently I took my omnivore family there. My sister won't stop talking about it, my mom loved it, and even my dad who is frankly scared of vegan food loved what he ate. Great job Munchies, I'll be coming back many times!
