Easy to make reservation. Very nice atmosphere. Food is delicious. Drinks were very good! Service was excellent!!! We loved the food and the menu is excellent!!! Will definitely go again!!!

Always delightful. A lovely place to quietly enjoy a night out, where quiet conversation can be enjoyed, with soft music in the background. Food is consistently well prepared and attractively presented. Wine pours are generous. Wait staff is efficient, friendly and checks to ensure one is enjoying each course of dinner. La Lanterna is one of our favorite San Mateo "Go To" restaurants.
Both my wife and I really enjoyed the pasta. We enjoy the ambiance and people there.
One person in our party of four ordered two appetizers for her meal â server brought them out before the salads. The fried calamari appetizer was barely âwarmâ â server didnât appear again until he brought the salads â guest in our party did not want to complain (which was a mistake on her part) with regard to the calamari â the veal piccata was a little salty and server never came back to see if everything was âokayâ. One person in our party asked for hot water only when coffee was severed and it was never âdeliveredâ. Overall it was a âquietâ atmosphere and we enjoyed being able to talk without shouting, however, the service was lacking.
We usually eat in The City (snobs). La Lanterna was recommended, so we gave it a try. Pleasantly surprised. Nice big booth. Service was very good. We both had proseco and wine, both very good, good value and a good pour. I didn't like the bread. Came to the table piping hot but it was either stale or had been frozen for a long time and sticking it in the oven didn't help it. Salads were OK and the pastas very good. PS. My wife said there was nothing wrong with the bread. When you are used to Acme and Tartine, it's hard to rise to The Occasion. We would go back.
Food was good (4/5). Unfortunately service was slow because it was very under staffed (1 waiter for entire restaurant) like many restaurants post COVID. Staff was very friendly. Atmosphere was nice, bathrooms were clean.
A great neighborhood restaurant with ever changing specials! Itâs been a favorite since it first opened!
Food was absolutely delicious. Service was excellent. It is a bit expensive, so be prepared for that, but quality was excellent.
