I have always liked to come here from time to time. The cream puffs are very good. A little bit pricey now and the size of the actual puffs is a little smaller.
I got mango filling, with a cookies and cream shell, the person I was with got green tea eclair shell with chocolate custard filling. It was really messy and hard to eat, but sweet and tasty. Probably wouldn’t recommend the mango flavor with chocolate but I was feeling adventurous. All in all, good prices, flavors, and taste. Could make the wrapper 3-sided instead of two though. Hard to hold it otherwise, and filling kinda came out everywhere.I should stop before this review gets censored.
Cookie crunch shell is very delicious, and the vanilla/strawberry fillings are great and not super sweet.
Yes, it is your standard Beard Papa's. And the original creamed puff allure is over as they are widely available from SF to San Jose. The reason for the 3 stars is that even today, they make you stand outside (even when there's not that many people waiting) before you order and while waiting for the order to be made. Also a lot of flavors were missing but I guess that's because we went in late. Nothing wrong with the cream puffs. Just commenting that it was quite horrid trying to pick it up.
Excellent, delicious cream puffs! But for years and years, they have been notorious for closing way before posted times, running out of ingredients, and today I went there, and they had to close mid-day for 30 min to restock. Clearly understaffed
I am leaving a four star review because most times we visit Beard Papa's the experience was just fine. This time however, we watched as the employee ran credit cards and handled the payment touch screen, and then grabbed puffs from the back and put them in the display case, touching many of them along the way with the dirty gloves. I brought this up with them and they assured me they would change gloves before handling the food. But the puffs had already been touched by the dirty gloves.
My absolute favourite is the cookie choux pastry filled with vanilla cream. The cookie part of the choux pastry is crunchy while the rest of the pastry is light and flaky. The cream filling is thick and rich.My second favourite is the original choux pastry with vanilla filling. This is what Beard Papa started off selling (the only thing they sold for a long time) in Beard Papas in Japan and it's the same as I remember it from 20 years ago.I do not recommend the green tea eclair with green tea cream filling because it's rather mediocre compared to the others. It just tastes too sweet (the eclair icing part makes it too sweet) and it costs extra, so I'd rather get the cookie choux cream or original choux cream. If I were to try one of the eclairs again I'd go for the more traditional-ish chocolate eclair with vanilla cream filling.
Got their set of 12 - Chocolate, Vanilla and Matcha. All of them were proper and just what I expected. Second time around and was not disappointed.
We've been ordering from Beard Papa's from DoorDash throughout the pandemic and have enjoyed the original, chocolate eclair, and Paris Brest (my personal fave, especially that coffee filling!!). Today we visited the physical location and the customer service was outstanding.
Customer service, it still exists. They were fast and informative about their products.
