If you want to have a hearty or healthy breakfast look no further then The Bay Watch Restaurant in San Mateo. It's centrally located downtown. They were busy on a weekday and accommodated our party of 8. We were immediately seated. Water, then Hot Coffee and Tea were served in a carafe and placed on the table. This was very convenient when I wanted a refill. The staff was very pleasant. The menu had a good selection of healthy dishes along with diner classics and skillets, and burritos and wraps.I chose the Bacado Omelette- Bacon, Avocado, and melted Monterey Jack Cheese. Topped with sour cream. Served with a side of salsa. It was good and had lots of flavors going on. I love avocado and it was delicious in an omelette, along with the cheese, salsa and sour cream. I chose Sourdough Bread and Bay Watch Potatoes. One of my friends had their Denver Omelette-Ham, Bell Peppers, Onions, and Cheddar and Monterey Jack Cheeses. She chose a Toasted English Muffin, and Home Fries. She was very pleased. My other friend ordered the Masterpiece Omelette-Ham, Bacon, Sausage , Mushrooms, Onions, melted Cheeses, and Diced Tomatoes. Topped with Sour Cream. He ate every drop on his plate. There are vegan and vegetarian along with healthy options too.We parked on the street.I will say this place is a bit pricey. A basic omelette starts at $14.95 and up depending if you add meat. Burritos $17.95, Skillets $18.95. A Smoked Salmon Omelette is $21.95. 2 Side Sausages start at $6.00, Chicken Sausage is $7.00. You get the picture.I will say everything was very tasty, and I would recommend coming here.
The food is great, but the service was poor. It appears that the employees were in a bad mood. It started off when we arrived. The guy didn't even greet us, no smile, and didn't even give us an ETA on when we'll be seated. We sat in the waiting area where I saw at least 3-4 tables available but not yet cleaned up for about 15 min (maybe they were short staffed due to being Father's Day). The guy just stood at the front and when a table was ready, the word that came out of his mouth to us was "ok, let's go". The employee's that brought the drinks, plates, creamers didn't place the items on the table, but its was kind of dropped and flung on the table (seems a little rude, but I understand this is not a fine dining restaurant). Again the food was good but the service could definitely be better. Previously, the service was better. It has definitely gone down a notch.
Food was good but it took a long time to arrive and one dish - a simple cheese omelette took 40 minutes to arrive.
Went here for breakfast this morning, we are from out of town. The ratings looked OK so we figured we would try it. It was just OK nothing special but the potatoes are nothing to brag about, no flavor to them. Maybe if they had some Onions, or bell peppers would be good some type of seasoning. Other than that it would not be our number one spot to go but it was OK.
Literally my favorite place in San Mateo. This place does omelettes, burritos, pancakes, and sandwiches well!! I come here weekly with my running club and always have a great meal (favorite is the Masterpiece omelet) In fact, thinking about them makes me hungry- I'm going now!
In my opinion, Baywatch is one of the true American diner here in Peninsula. There are so many options but I ordered the veggie Flatbread with no cheese and it exceeded my expectations. Highly recommended ?
Classic American diner. Great place to go for breakfast in San Mateo when you're in the mood for some good old fashioned bacon, eggs, and hash browns.
Ordered takeout. She said it would be ready in 30 minutes. Arrived 22 minutes later and it was sitting on a table already ready. It was cold, dried out, and you could definitely tell they gave us the last scraps of the burnt hash browns. Also- I ordered potatoes and hash browns and only got hash browns. We will not be returning.
This place is at a good location in downtown San Mateo, but the food is just okay. A little saltier, and the price was a little higher than similar restaurants within a 10-minute drive, or even walk from here. I had Smoked Salmon Benedict, and it was just average. Add a few standard "greasy spoon" items that are missing from the menu(like biscuits for example), this "diner" could be one of those places that has a line out the door everyday!
Food was great. It's a diner, which I love. My only complaint was that there were a lot of flies, but that couldn't be helped with doors open due to pandemic
