after 40 years of being my favorite go to place when at the coast, it was very disappointing.
Ordered 2 bowls of clam chowder 2 drinks and a sour dough loaf at 7:06pm. 7:26pm the loaf came out but no chowder. 7:46pm went up to the counter to find out that they had run out of chowder. I had heard other customers getting compensated for their orders and I was not. 7:56pm chowder finally came out. Food was good but service was a little to be desired.
I always get the bread bowl clam chowder because it is by far my favorite option on the menu. The rich and creamy chowder is complimented by the soft crunch of the bread bowl. Perfect for those rare rainy days! I love recommending Splash Café to any guest who enjoys seafood and I've yet to hear a single complaint. Plus it is just two blocks away from where I work at La Cuesta Inn! Splash Café is my go to lunch spot for any of my seafood cravings however I find myself consistently going there for the clam chowder. The atmosphere is cute and the café is small overall but offers outdoor seating for guests to enjoy the SLO sunshine. While they have a location in Pismo Beach, just 20 minute south, I favor the San Luis Obispo location as there is always a line around the block at the Pismo Beach spot. A perfect example of just how good that World Famous Clam Chowder truly is.
Small place, delicious food. We tried spicey chicken sandwich, tuna melt, onion rings, calamri, coffee and few bakery items. Everything was tasty and well prepared. Staff was friendly and enthusiastic. If I lived here, this would have been my go to place for food.
Good for coffee, breakfast burritos and pastries. Good for people-watching too, nice location on Monterey St.
Everything was sooo good!!! Dog friendly area too.. when i’m about to leave i ended up getting another cup of chowder…best taste ever.
The clam chowder was awesome. Maybe the best I've had, at least on the west coast if not ever. Salmon tacos were good, too, but I was primarily there for the bread bowl chowder.Prepare to wait in line for ordering and even for a seat. It's worth it, tho.
Yay for Taco Tuesday! Delish! The clam chowder is the best. San Francisco and Monterey both have nothing better!
Lots of hustle and bustle. It was a small place that was quite crowded at lunchtime. The service was great and so was the food. I got the spicy chicken sandwich, it wasn’t very spicy, but better that it be less spicy than too spicy, in my opinion. It was very delicious either way. People all around were enjoying their bread bowls. A cute place, be sure to stop by, just perhaps stay vigilant when trying to find somewhere to sit…!
Place is still amazing! Fully loaded clam chowder bread bowl
