While in town for a family graduation at nearby Cal Poly, my wife and I hosted dinner one evening for a party of eight. Our reservation was graciously acknowledged, and we were immediately seated at a prime outdoor table. Taylor was our server that evening, and she did a phenomenal job. I had spoken with the Operations Manager a few weeks prior in order to have the wine pre-ordered, just to eliminate that minor complexity. The wine list is much more limited than it was pre-Covid; I think Luna needs to work on that a bit. Before we got to the wine, however, it was time for a celebratory cocktail. I'm not typically impressed with specialty cocktail lists, but Luna Red proved the exception. Highly crafted and highly curated, these cocktails were so delicious and beautifully presented. As soon as you lay eyes on the menu, you'll note it emphasizes tapas-style dining - small plates mostly, but also a focus on several versions of paella. I would say half of our guests enjoyed the paella while the rest of us gorged on various taco dishes (mixing and matching was encouraged). The table shared three delicious desserts. Coffee service was painfully slow (the only hiccup of the evening). It's not inexpensive here at Luna Red, but it's a wonderful dining experience in the heart of beautiful downtown San Luis Obispo.

located near the Mission along a park, lovely outdoor seating The service was good and prompt despite being very busy - I think it was prom or graduation, so it was packed, fortunately I had reservations The best paella we have had since Spain

Came here on a Monday at around 7 and we got seated super quickly!- Tuna Ceviche (4.5/5): I quite enjoyed this, but my parents mentioned that it was a little too sour for their liking. The chips that came with it were very nice- Tortilla Soup (4.5/5): This was quite good! Was definitely glad we got the ceviche so we could put in some crunchier chips in it- Del Mar (Seafood) Paella (4.5/5): This was super well seasoned and a surprising amount of food! We got it with the squid ink, which definitely went well with the seafood- Crema Catalana (4.5/5): This reminded me of the creme part of creme brulee. The fruit on this was so sweet that even the sweetness of the cream didn't make them taste sour! The only complaint I have is that the container it came in made it a little difficult to get all the cream

Awesome food. We've now been back a second time, and thought it was time to update the review. We had a great time. I liked the text earlier asking if we wanted to be inside or out, abd then we were running a little late abd they said no problem when we called to let them know. Table was ready when we got there. The server was great, cocktail roulette ended up with some of the best drinks we had ever had. And of course the food was excellent.

What a phenomenal experience. The decor, the ambiance, the staff, the drinks, and of course, the food. We ordered the mixed paella and it was simply amazing. I am a self-proclaimed food critic and I give it two thumbs up.

My sisters and I went to here while visiting San Luis Obispo. Best decision we ever made. The staff was amazing. I wish I could’ve gotten the name of our waitress because of how friendly and amazing she was. The food was even more amazing. We fell in love with each bite. The tacos were so good too and wish I could’ve had a couple more. We sat next to a window that overlooked the creek there which just added to the amazing ambiance. Overall it was an amazing experience. Thank you to the staff for making our little stop amazing.

Attractive looking restaurant with large outdoor seating area. A cold evening so chose to sit inside.Food is tapas-inspired, so either small plates or large dishes to share. The chicken and chorizo paella was good; the two soft-boiled eggs on top were a little unusual but actually complemented the dish. Good choice of wine and friendly service.

We came in for lunch on a Sunday with 2 dogs when it was impossible to get a reservation in town. I’m so glad that we found Luna Red. The food was the best part but the patio was beautiful and the location and service were very good. We will go back for the BBQ Oysters but the lamb lollipops and the shrimp deserve mention. We pass through SLO from time to time and will certainly return to this lovely and creative spot.

Great tasting food in a fabulous setting just off the stream and across from San Luis Obispo's mission. Caribbean curry had very nice flavors and the prawns inside of it were perfectly cooked. The tacos look good too, and there's a Taco Tuesday promotion. Service attentiveness was not quite there in order to be awarded a 5 star experience.

Was very much looking forward to this experience as it was well recommend. Seating was plentiful and staff welcoming. Once seated our server was prompt to take our order. We order the paella with a sampler platter of tacos. The tacos arrived quickly and we're well displayed, taste and caliber however were average. Being "taco Tuesday" I would assume tacos were being order en-masse by multiple tables thus the quality possibly suffering a bit. Even so the order was still worth the value. Next came the paella which again arrived timely as we were wrapping up the tacos. As proper the paella was served in pan family style as it was cooked. Our tapas plates were still full from the remaining tacos and salsa cups so I had request additional side plates so we could serve the paella. We started tasting small tidbits as we waited. Unfortunately after being checked on a second time by our server our plates never came. Further disappointment in finding that the menu listed "house made chorizo" was just a sliced up summer sausage from the grocery store. Left with the only choice of trying to dig in with our forks into a spinning pan and no real way to cut up the chicken or sausage left an other wise well spiced dish unappetizing.
