Such a great experience and the tuna ? was delish! Prices are reasonable!
The Best in the west. A tradition in SLO with unmatched quality
The amount of pride and care Goshi takes in every aspect of quality is rare. Most high-end restaurants value superficial ambience and presentation, while serving underwhelming food. It's crystal clear Goshi values the perfection of taste and quality over shallow values. For example, not even the mundane things like side salads are exempt. They only use the deep green lettuce parts, never the yellow or white parts. On the high side, their omakase nigiri is an indescribable quantum leap above anything else I have ever found outside of Japan. And bewilderingly, their prices are two-thirds to half of fair value. If you're looking for "dragon roll," find a fake Chinese-owned Japanese restaurant.
Wonderful for a date night - we ordered the Sushi Kanpai boat for two and were delighted by the presentation and quality.
Oishi desu! Yum yum. The chef here is a true Maestro.
We got here at 1 on a Wednesday and were seated after ~10 min of waiting. The lot on the side was full, so we had to find meter parking on the streets nearby. After we ordered, we ended up waiting about half an hour before our food came out due to a mix up with the kitchen. The fish was fresh, but honestly wasn't sure if it was worth the price or the wait. Might be the best option there is in SLO though. The miso soup that came with the sets was a little salty, but might've been because we got our food near their afternoon closing hours.- Tempura & Sashimi Set (3.5/5): Tempura was very good and crispy, but this probably had the lowest price:value ratio- Sashimi Set (4/5): Fish was very fresh - it basically melted in your mouth!- Chirashi Bowl (5/5): Definitely the best deal out of the sets. Came with so many large pieces of fish, as well as a nice bed of sushi rice underneath
I used to go to Goshi frequently back when I went to Cal Poly from 2012-2016. Recently I visited while doing a road trip across the California coast and I was happy to see that the quality and atmosphere has stayed exactly the same as I remembered it, and now with a little more room! This is by far the best Japanese food on the central coast. You will want to have a reservation to get dinner here, but my personal favorite is grabbing one of the lunch specials here. Make sure you show up 15-20 min before the open to get your name on the list though! Even during weekdays it can be competitive to get a lunch spot.
We came to celebrate my husband's retirement with a special lunch. The food was excellent! We enjoyed a variety of chef's special fish. The chef showed us many interesting ingredients and explained what they were. Our waiter was terrific and as friendly as he was when he waited on us during our first visit a month ago. However, when we were leaving, the host ridiculed me for insulting the chef. The chef never gave any indication of insult. This reduced the enjoyment of what was supposed to be a special lunch visit.
Best sushi and authentic Japanese food for 3 hours in either direction. A must stop in the area
This is the best Japanese cuisine I have had in years. The menu is diverse and the food is brilliantly presented. We sat at the sushi bar and still had a server who provided excellent service and recommended lovely options. There is also a small parking lot as well as street parking in quaint downtown SLO. I highly recommend reservations be made, as this is a very popular place!
