Comfort food though not perfect..- ms. Usha was very responsive and helpful w.r.t our catering order.- overall the food felt very home-made and simple. Not greasy, not very masala stuffed that typically makes you feel bloated and burning otherwise.- taro fry : tasty and not oil dripping.- potato cauliflower curry : traditional way with ginger and chillies .- tomato methi pickle : this was a hit with everybody. Nothing fancy , just nice .- carrot halwa : nice. Just sweet enough.- punugulu : wouldn’t recommend. Not the authentic punugulu we expected. They were very hard and grainy with a lot to rava texture. Nobody went for a second round with these and a lot were left out.- Would go back to order again from this place, but would be specific and careful on what to choose. Its still a lot better and comfort food for the tummy than a regular restaurant party food
Ordered 2 times 1 month apart. 1st time was below expectations. Yesterday was Ugadi specials. I bought 3-4 orders of the specials: Boorelu etc, so I could share them with others. Uniform opinion from everyone I shared this stuff with: Boorelu were not even cooked completely. Garelu didn't taste/look like gaarelu. Mulakkada pappu awful. Avakaya pulihara pitiful. These guys give bad name to vizag vantalu. In the Bayarea, these guys rank very low on quality, as far as Andhra dishes are concerned.
I wanted to try Vizag Vantillu and ordered food. The owner, Usha Gollapudi sent us truly authentic Vizag / Andhra food. We loved Pulihora, Punugulu, Dahi Vada, Boorelu and eggplant curry. She also sent us complimentary plantain (upma kura). My guests enjoyed and since we are all from Vizag, it brought back our memories of our home. I spoke with Usha and got to know her a bit more about her passion for running this restaurant. Try it and you will not be dissapointed. It's delicious.
Was browsing through DoorDash to order some South Indian food and stumbled upon this place.Price:The food here is very reasonably priced.Packaging:The food was packaged really well, specially compared to some of the other places that serve similar food. There were no spills or mixup.Taste:1. Idly - Soft and fluffy. I liked the taste.2. Medu Vada - Crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Not too oily.3. Punugulu - One of the better ones I have had in the bay area.4. Mysore Bonda - These go well with the coconut chutney.5. Mini Thali - My order was missing "roti".The food was a bit saltier than what we usually eat, but overall tasted good and authentic. Would definitely order again.
This review is for catering purpose only. I personally never ordered from Vizag Vantillu but I have experience eating food from here when our friends ordered for house warming functions. I’m writing this review for two functions.Pros1. Lot of options to choose from unlike regular restaurants who usually have fixed menu.2. Tastes like home food. Not too much gravy or masala kind of a thing. Also lot of vegetable options.3. Budget friendly.4. Proper Andhra food feels.Experience of foodFunction 1:salt was an issue. For one function, our friends ordered brinjal curry (not gravy) it was brinjal stuffed with curry powder. Curry was good but it was very salty. Aloo curry was really bad. Tamarind rice was very oily. Bhindi fry was hightlight. Dal and sambar were avg.Function 2:Again Dal and sambar were avg and tamarind rice was oily. Bhindi fry was highlight. They ordered double ka meetha for dessert which was very very sweet. Some of us got sensitivity by that sweetness. Rest of items were good. They should really take of saltiness and sweetness.
Excellent Authentic Andhra food.Love all their curries ,sambar,Dahi vada,Pulihora and boorelu. Reminds me of mom's recipes. They are made so fresh everyday and just like home cooked taste.Quantity they give is great..much larger compared to other restaurants. They last for 2-3 meals large combos.
Ordered here for a small party ( 10 people ) and the owner suggested small tray. It will be easily sufficient to 15-20 adults/kids. The taste is just like homemade and very tasty. Mango dal, mixed pakoda, punugulu with coconut chutney and pulao are the highlights. Everyone enjoyed it, especially kids as it was less spice.
I picked up food for the first time on Saturday. The food was plentiful, delicious and very much like homemade food. My husband and son are extremely picky eaters and they enjoyed the lunch - my son said to write that the sponge dosa was delicious. Best wishes!
Authentic South Indian fare. Reminds me of some of my moms recipes. A super nice addition to the SanJose Indian food scene.
Have ordered the Thali and absolutely none of them were good except the Andhra Chutney & Sweet. All curries, Sambar not good. I would go with 50% rating of 2.5.Banana curry was too salty, Dal no way can be compared to Andhra Dal, Sambar is salt less and taste needs to be improved, same situation with Cabbage curry. Only good items are Andhra Chutney and Mysore pak.
