I never thought I'd find a true Pub in the USA...The "Pub," is a Public house where all are welcome. Most pubs in the UK were actually someone's home, at some point... They just decided to open a business, installed a bar and invited their friends over for a pint. The living room slowly became the seating area, and the walls were eventually adorned with random momentos donated or accidentally left by neighbors."British Pubs" of the US present themselves as more British than Brits. They are souless self-advertising machines that pelt you with pictures of red telephone booths, shiny brass rails, Union Jacks on everything and Guiness ads under every drink. Absolutely obnoxious, and totally American in execution!However, San Jose's Trials gets the vibe right! Great food, cask ales, classic music, and a vibe that feels like a home, lovingly decorated by the locals. It is wholey owned by its clientele and it would be hard to find a night where the patrons don't already know each other.You can grab a drink and get loud over a bowl of hot curried chips, or slink around to the back room, and curl up next to the fireplace with a good book and a ploughman's plate.I have a deep love for Trials and I can only hope that you are lucky enough to experience it, too!
Great food, great drinks. Only downside is that you have to order everything at the bar. First drinks, food, and every other drink after that. You have to wait for your drinks at the bar, but they'll bring the food to you. From what I understand, that's typical pub style. It's just a bit inconvenient when you're sitting in the middle of a table of 14 and you have to wiggle your way out. Definitely recommend otherwise.
Great bar experience, never too packed, bartenders are all very nice. Good drinks. Good beer selection. No TV, which is a major plus. Good music always playing. Fair prices. They close at midnight which is nice. Never really any riff raff or rowdy crowds. Definitely recommend this spot. Food is really good too.
Dave is cool. He ensures a fun and safe time while you are visiting. A place to take a break when needed

Trials pub is a shuttle place to have a" drink with food and cach up with things with old friends but the real reason I go is for the building architecture inside and outside it has this old world pub mistique to it Wich I'm all for takes you back to Victorian Edwardian England 1870's-1919 etc. Very good food and good selection of micro brews and others cool place to hang out get away from sports bars a' taste of old england cheers
