I absolutely love this manju (mochi) shop in Japantown SJ and our family has been coming here for decades. During the Obon festival they have shaved ice which is very popular! There are huge lines! Very reasonable pricing for the portion. The manju is thee best/most authentic that one can find in the Bay Area. Sadly they were not selling any manju today. Another gem. Please stop by and support this local small business- you won’t be disappointed!
Fresh, soft pillowy mochi in different varieties. My favorites are the butter mochi, green tea, white manju, pink white (rice flour and smooth lima bean mochi) and the various chichi dango flavors. Chichi dango menu changes every week, so sometimes they will have strawberry, orange, raspberry, POG (passionfruit, orange, guava) and other flavors rotating. They're only open Thurs, Fri, Sat and Sun. Get there early or preorder at least one day in advance or more to get the best selection. Love coming back here!
Kakigori (ice shaved) is very good here and big portion! I order passion fruit and watermelon! Very good for hot weather! Made me miss Kakigori in Japan!
Nice service and a price! But personally I prefer mochi in mitsuwa more haha.. I would recommend peanut butter among the flavors I got
Truly one of a kind. Delicious mochi.I am a huge fan of mochi and I have to say you will not find anything like this in the bay area. By far the best mochi in the bay and the only place which has a wide variety. Love the red bean filling
Yummy! Fresh and soft. My favorite is the Chi Chi Dango. This place is among the few surviving manju/mochi shops we gladly support whenever in the area.
Mochis with red and white bean filling are my favorite. Come early before noon on weekdays for more selections. $2/piece. It's a small business. The last time I went was on 6/4/22, long queue on the sidewalk, order through a window. Now accept credit card. Check their website prior going to see if they are open that day.
Ok all the hype about this place is real. Run don’t walk. Went there on Thursday 1pm, no line so had a pleasant experience in ordering and pick up. Ordered five mochis, all of them are bomb. The softest ever and so flavorful.
Ordering and pickup experience was smooth - I would highly recommend calling or emailing the shop the day before to pre-order as you can skip the long lineups.I was very excited to try this place as it was so highly rated. Unfortunately it did not live up to my expectations, especially for the relatively high price of each mochi piece. The mochi was also extremely sweet to the point that I could not bear to eat more than one bite of some of the mochi. It might be great for those who have a sweet tooth, but not those who prefer a milder flavor.
Wow. Just wow. These tasted so much better than other store-bought massive produced mochis. It was so soft and perfectly sweetened. The price was surprisingly reasonable for the quality of food. I came in the morning when the store just opened to avoid a long time so I got my food within a minute. We ate the 6 mochi throughout three days and the texture was still just perfect on the third day! I wish I live in the Bay Area so I can get those all the time lol
