Local “free” music. Bar food. Muffuletta was ok. Nice bartender.
Not sure why everything is served in takeout containers, but the food is pretty decent and the atmosphere is nice.Lots of interesting menu items, will definitely have to come back again to try them out and also enjoy the live music
Currently in a semi construction situation, the Poor House Bistro is temporarily " The Poor House Patio.." The old building has been relocated to Little Italy for a late Summer reopening. But the good times live on! Good Food..Great Music..Good Vibes..Friendly People..oh..and great staff and good cocktails and fresh cold beer..and wine!!
PHB has always been a top spot for some great food and music before a Sharks game. We were happy to know that although the main house has moved, that they were still operating full kitchen and bar. As always, Kennedy and the entire staff were awesome and made the visit worth being there.
Some of the dishes here are a bit hit and miss, but I always order the BBQ Shrimp Po Boy, which comes with a decent portion shrimp doused in a delicious and lightly spicey butter sauce and served on a lightly toasted sandwhich roll.I also sometimes order the popcorn shrimp, which come nicely breaded and not overdone. They had me at remoullade. An added plus is the ambiance, as there is almost always some form of live band playing blue-sy type music outside under the covered patio. The crowd is typically older, 50's plus, but it shouldn't stop anyone from coming and enjoying themselves.
Casual atmosphere with live music. The food arrived quick and was Very good!
Outdoor seating is available. I ordered the sampler that allows you to try the gumbo, jambalaya, red beans/rice and cornbread. Here are my rankings in order of goodness:1. Jambalaya - delicious, fresh, would definitely order again2. Gumbo - very good. Would order again but is probably comparable to other places you may find.3. Red beans and rice - basic. Had to add some salt to mine. Once I did that it was good but still wasn’t “wow!” To meCornbread was fire!!Beignets I would not order again, they had a doughy/cake consistency and didn’t taste very fresh.Food overall was pretty fresh and good. I’d come here again but wouldn’t go out of my way to find this place. The outdoor seating with music is very nice.
Going to SAP Arena in San Jose? Be sure to stop here, about a 5 minute walk (1/4 MU), for stellar blues music and tasty southern comfort food.
Food was great, live music during brunch definitely helped set the vibe. Prices were good considering how much food they give you. Will definitely come back again soon.
