I was looking for places that sell omurice and found it at this Ramen place. It’s different from I expected. The food isn’t too bad but too salty for me.
Sat down at a table for 15 minutes with no service. Asked waitress for some help and she said she was off. Waited 5 more minutes with no service. Walked out…
Heard about this restaurant through a family member and decided to try it out. Katana is a small restaurant located near Joann Fabrics in Almaden. They serve donburi, udon, ramen, and more. What stuck out to me on the menu was the Spicy Ramen because of the unique ingredients. I had never had celery, potato, and carrots in my ramen before so why not try it out, right? The veggies in the spicy ramen were perfectly tender, the beef was moist, and the noodles were al dente. The only thing I didn't like was that the broth wasn't what I was expecting, wasn't very flavorful, and wasn't enough to cover the noodles all the way. The broth tasted like a a very light vegetable broth that didn't match the name of the dish. Other than that there was plenty of topping on the noodles (without broth) and in the broth. (7/10)According to my dad, the Katana Ramen was good and had very unique toppings. There was chasu, kaarage, AND fried gyoza in the ramen. All of which were well made. The broth was very creamy, fairly rich, and wasn't too salty. He noted that the ramen was a 8/10.Here is what we got:? Katana Ramen(Chasu, corn, egg, kaarage, and fried gyoza)? Spicy Beef Ramen(Beef, potato, carrots, zucchini, onion, celery, egg, and tofu)Overall, the ramen was good. I would go back to try something new because they have some unique menu items.
The miso ramen is tasty! I really liked the karaage and gyoza in it.
I'm not exactly sure, but when I arrived, the store had a closed sign, yet there were customers inside. Curious, I walked in and to my surprise the chef was ready to take an order. Not wanting to take up too much time, I just ordered some assorted tempura. He spent around 20 minutes making it, understandably slow because he was alone, but he threw in extra pieces to make up for the wait. The tempura was great with a light batter and crunchy exterior and the dipping sauce was the perfect pair.
We drove 15 minutes across town to give this shop a try as my daughters and I wanted something new today. We arrived to find the door open but all seating still stacked up. (Indoor dining has been open in the county for weeks now.) I asked if they took to-go orders and the man said, "Yes" . As we approached to order, he said that the food would be a 25 minute wait. I looked around confused. (Empty store). He explained they had Doordash and Grubhub orders and my order couldn't just "jump the line." It was the most awkward conversation I've had in a while, as if by arriving in person I was acting entitled or something. I declined to order and left. There was no seating for waiting customers. It appears that they're focusing on their online business and unable to take in-person orders or service. Which could be handled gracefully by posting this info somewhere (yelp, google maps, etc ) updating websites, or a sign on the door. We won't be trying this place again in the future.
11/10!! kind owners and amazing food, will definitely be visiting again!
This place is awesome, great food and friendly service, cannot wait to dine in here when things open back up.
Delicious food. Good quality. But they nickel and dime you, $1 for corn, 1.25 to add spice?! $3 for a little piece of chicken, and $3 for 2 tiny pot stickers in your miso ramen. Food was delicious but $45 for 2 bowls of soup. I will only return if I'm really craving ramen and if I'm nearby.
The food is consistently fresh and delightful, employees gives great customer service. I like the cleanliness and atmosphere. Worth a try.
