What a way to start a great day! Princess and her playlist made even the grumpiest teenager happy and ready for HS finals! THANK you thank you thank you!!!!
Ok, first thing you care about in a restaurant is food. Their's was great diner food. As a personal issue, I LOVED that they don't over salt theirs, not too much and yet didn't feel the need to add more. As a result, you can taste the food and not just salt. And that is an issue I have been having lately as people try to mask lower quality ingredients with salt. The staff was great and the restaurant itself was clean and nicely decorated with pictures of San Jose's history. Definitely go again.
Nice food, cool place, fast delivery
This is probably the greatest little gem. I was in town visiting my gf. I really needed to have somewhere I could write a 1500 essay due after spring break( they also have wifi!) Anyways came here a PRINCESS was right there to greet. She helped with food suggestions and her consistently pleasant attitude is a rarity these days. The food was excellent, It reminded me of my grandmas cooking which was a pleasant feeling to enjoy it every bite (huge portions too!). Prices were amazing and mimosas were extremely affordable considering everything in town. As a student that matters! Princess even went above and beyond and actually helped me a bit with my essay when I was stuck. I can’t wait to come back this is my little hidden treasure!
Great little local find! My parents were here for the weekend and we were trying to find a brunch place, and after turning up to one place with a 1.5 hour wait, I called 5 others (all 30min-1 hr waits), then called Cafe San Jose to be told they had no wait at that moment. We rushed over and got sat right away!I had the Woody Benedict (eggs benedict with chorizo) and the eggs were perfectly poached, the benedict sauce creamy without being overwhelming, and the chorizo an AMAZING contrast to the sauce. My mom had one of the scrambles, which she said was delicious; and my dad had the french dip and said it was nice and juicy, definitely not dry.Extremely reasonable prices, VERY fast service from the kitchen (I think we got our food within 15 min of ordering? and the restaurant was full!); overall will absolutely go again!
Firstly, Angela was our server and she was top-notch…and I am, admittedly, hard to please when it comes to dining service. We found Cafe San Jose via Google search and decides to give it a shot based on ratings. After doubling back from the airport, we drove about three miles and landed in what appeared to be a small complex of older shops, with CSJ set way back in the corner. I was a bit skeptical, but decided to set aside my initial thoughts. So happy I did! Both my husband and I were thoroughly pleased from start to finish. I had the verge omelette that was stuffed with fresh veggies, including big chunks of perfectly sautéed broccoli, topped with the homemade guacamole - holy guacamole…literally. My husband’s giant breakfast burrito was a hit! 100% coming back to this place the next time we head in and out of Monterey!
For a small restaurant in San Jose that is open for breakfast and lunch, Café San Jose has an extensive menu that anyone can find something of interest. The service was nice, the restaurant clean and one's enjoyment depended on the items ordered. The Porky Benedict was a winner while the Guacamole Omelet was bland and missing the bacon and guacamole. Slices of avocado were substituted for the guacamole... And one would hope a breakfast place would have good coffee...it doesn't have to be great, just good. The coffee was best described as weak... We probably won't be back.
Waitress was quick, funny and tolerant of my husband's bad jokes (worse than dad jokes, if that's possible). She gets a gold star for that alone! Food was good, plentiful and served nice and hot. The only downside was that both of us ordered our hashbrowns extra crispy but they were barely browned at all. Tasted fine, but the crunch is the best part. It's a good, local, mom and pop type of place that we enjoy.
Great Eggs Benedict!!! Definitely a must try!
I've lived in the neighborhood for a few years. I ate here for the first time last week. Great food. Large portions.
