Delicious yums, pleasant and good looking staff. ?It's not easy to find vegan AND gluten free EVERYTHING (that's also delicious)in one place. I'm a fan.
Have you had pastry that contains traces of butter or yeasted flour anytime in the past five years? If so, you’ll find Wholesome almost edible. The brownie would be better called a torte. Despite the rich chocolate having good flavor, when you bite, you realize the whole thing is a glob of coconut oil that sticks to the roof of your mouth. Yuck. The pastry dough used for danishes and other treats is objectively gross – bland with no sponginess or flakiness. In your mouth, it disintegrates into hard little nuggets I shan’t call crumbs. It might be appreciated by lifelong vegans only. The 7-layer bar is an edible but not enjoyable amalgam of shredded coconut coconut oil. A few butterscotch chips would sure liven it up. Still one star quality. Check out Draegers for a delicious alternative.Wholesome deserves two stars - a second for laudably making baked goods accessible to those with allergies.
I visited this cafe whilst on my holiday for brunch and was disappointed. They are only serving everything in takeaway boxes at the moment but have seating inside which doesn’t make sense. I tried two of the bakery things; the cinnamon roll and the chocolate cupcake. The cinnamon roll was very small, I didn’t like the texture of it as it was more of a cake than pastry. It tasted nice but wasn’t great. The cupcake was horrible. The sponge was so pasty and difficult to eat with no flavour and the icing tasted like paint with no flavour. There was too much icing on it; weird texture and just tasted horrible so I scraped it off and just ate the sponge. I ordered something off their food menu (which is very limited). I ordered the avocado on toast; this was on a piece of cake like bread which was so heavy and was like banana bread which didn’t mix well with the avocado. There was a tiny amount of avocado scraped on top. Way too much bread to avocado. The service was terrible. They forgot my avocado on toast so I was sat waiting in the cafe for 30 minutes; didn’t receive an apology and staff just didn’t seem to care. The drink options are very limited too. Overall, despite this being one of the few fully vegan cafes in San Fransisco; this cafe just needs to up their game because there’s so many other better places. The food, service and atmosphere of the place just isn’t good.
Two stars because everything was gorgeous but it was bland, crumbly and left an oily film on the mouth. No one at the party finished their slice of cake, even the kids! I ordered a ton (and spent a lot here): birthday cake, 2 pastries and cupcakes. We didn’t finish eating any of them. Sorry to say this doesn’t live up to the hype. Better off going to any bakery in the city and getting their vegan or GF option. Wanted to love it! But kind of ruined the surprise party. Hope they can improve the texture!
Super solid place if you have gluten allergies and want a bagel that won’t give you issues later ?. As someone who’s been gluten free for 15 years it’s nice to have a place in the neighborhood that provides that option.
Ordered the birthday box for a friend and had an excellent experience. I requested an early morning delivery via email and Wholesome was responsive and very nice about it. The delivery came first thing in the AM which we really appreciated. The cake bombs were delicious and I loved the packaging and the happy birthday individual letter candles.
I ordered a birthday cake. The service was great and the cake looks amazing. But, the cake was unusually dense and crumbly and dry. Even for a GF, nut based cake. Almost felt like one of those frozen cakes, you didn't give enough time to thaw. The crema was excessively sweet and felt like chalk, although they advertise that they use less sugar, it was the most sugary filling I've ever had. Overall, it wasn't too bad, but I certainly expected something better. I'll definitely give this place another try, but I can't say my first impression is great.
Truly amazing!! Sarah and her team did a fantastic job on our wedding cake.It was exactly what we were hoping for. We also added their 7 layers bars which were a huge hit alongside our cake.
I was very skeptical about the mushroom coffee but it’s actually delicious. I would prefer this to regular coffee.
Nice vegan cakes. A little expensive, but unique.
