It was our second visit to this restaurant. The first visit was years ago before it was granted a star and it was an amazing experience. But unfortunately, our recent visit was not such a pleasant one.Food -- 4 stars. Don't give me wrong the sushi was great compared to its price ($95 for 10 pieces), but compared to other Michelin starred sushi places I would say the rice is a little bit on the hard and dry side. Maybe I was too picky.Service -- 2 stars. This is the part we were feeling less pleasant. When we entered the store we were grated very impatiently and even kinda on the rude side. Maybe we were not that well dressed that day, the lady may think us to be someone just wandering on the street trying to grab some cheap sushi, and accidentally entered a premium place. When the sushi were served, the lady who presented the food to us had started to move away from us even before she completed the sentence. Sometimes I was trying to ask some follow-up questions but she did not give us the chance. Frankly speaking I did not know what's the rush. I've been to almost all Michelin starred sushi restaurants in bay area and it was never like this. When we paid the check and left the restaurant, again, no one greeted us as well. Maybe we were not welcomed from the very beginning. After all, I appreciate their effort to lower the bar for accessing premium sushi (tasting menu at $95 compared to other places at around $200). But frankly speaking I was disappointed on the way I was treated. I'll find somewhere else next time maybe.
The omakase was amazing! They are welcoming, kind, and the service is great. The best spot to sit is at the counter. Everything is so fresh. You pay for the food, freshness, quality of ingredients, and experience- it is expensive overall but worth it!! Thank you Wako, we will be back!
Wow!! Amazing sushi! Everything was presented so elegantly. Every piece of sushi tasted better than the last. Very fresh and tasty. The server explained every serving and was very knowledgeable about each item. Thank you!!
Been to Wako dozens of times over the years, but only recently have I started doing reviews seriously. Before, I had only one criticism of Wako and that was making a reservation for one, it could not be done online, but had to call in. Not that was bad, as you made a personal acquaintance with the staff, but still, we are now a people of hiding from the world by doing everything online, with the Great Panic of 2020 were even ordering sushi online and eating alone. Thatâs ended, but the internet dependent me now does appreciate being able to make reservations for one online. But now the food. Wako has a Michelin Star, so what can a humble online scribbler of food say that can convey about what the experts and gourmets at Michelin have already said and described? Iâm just a gourmand, I enjoy eating delicious food and Wako has that, and a fantastic staff led by Chef Tomo-sama. What I can say is that every time I dine there, it is worthy of their Michelin Star. However, for this visit I want to bring your attention to one particular dish, awBi Juneau, fresh, very fresh, Japanese abalone. Abalone is a most difficult dish to prepare, most restaurants donât get it right, usually it comes out tough and chewy. However, thereâs a reason Tomo-Dana has has a star over the years, he consistently gets difficult dishes done perfectly, in this case tender and delicious. Thatâs what separates the experts from the others. My advice, go there often, especially now that abalone is in season. You wonât regret it.
It was a good experience of Omakase.
Birthday dinner ! Incredible sushi experience - the fish was so fresh and melts in your mouth! The chef made each piece so full of flavor!
We love Wako. The food, the service, the atmosphere. Everything is special including the after-dinner chocolate.
This was probably the best dinner I've had, hands down. The chef was engaged, energetic and enthusiastic. The food was exquisite.
Most amazing food and to the highest of standards.
The best omakase experience weâve ever had. The chef was helpful and knowledgeable and every single bite was unbelievable.
