I usually come here every time I visit SF. Their soft serve is always good and worth the trek. I tried the soy milk and ube soft serve and both flavors were amazingly good. The combo of the two compliments each other pretty well.
Ice cream is perfect. Not excessively sweet. Love the ice cream with the taiyaki on top.
If it wasn't for those long lines, I'd probably go to Uji Time more often. But I think my waistline and wallet benefits from it lol.It's no wonder that the lines are long, though. They have really good ice cream and taiyaki. Let's talk about the taiyaki first: it's delicious! The waffle is so fluffy. I've had denser versions before, but having a lighter version pairs well with ice cream (as opposed to it being filled with red bean or hazelnut spread).I've had their black sesame ice cream and matcha ice cream so far. Both are very good, but I like the black sesame one better. I like the nutty flavor. And I also like the different toppings, especially since there's many that you can't get at American ice cream shops (like Pocky or water sticks).There’s so many wonderful dessert places to eat in Japantown, but definitely give Uji Time a try. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
Ordering was easy is done electronically through their tablet located just to the left of the front door. User Interface was fairly intuitive. Payment is processed using swipe or tap via square. You are provided a receipt. Very little interaction with the worker but I’m sure if you had questions you can just ring the bell. There is no indoor seating.I ordered the black sesame and it was fairly good I think but my wife was not into it so it may be an acquired taste. Not sure though if it’s a go out of my way stand in line good. I’d go back to have a go with the other selection.
Love anywhere with matcha ice cream and they put it in Takiyaki. Eat it in the square for a nice view.
I found this little ice cream place after walking around the mall and what a gem this is, their taiyaki was so good I will probably dream of it. I also had never had black sesame ice cream and i am hooked now. Loved this experience.

Super yummy! I had the tayaki ube cone with red bean paste and loved it. First for all of the above for me. Placed our order at the kiosk and got our order almost immediately. Fun stop!
When you crave something creamy, cold, and sweet, you'll have to make a few decisions. Savory black sesame? Energizing matcha? Or maybe sweet ube? Do you want the aesthetic appeal of things poking out of your dessert? Or are you in a keep-it-simple-sprinkles kind of mood? Regardless, here's an equation to help you out: uji + soft serve + fish cone = yum-splosion.
I am a sucker for Taiyaki. Take warm fluffy dough, and put ice cream inside? Take my money! Love the asian flavored ice creams. I got the matcha green tea in the taiyaki, which was delicious, in that fluffy taiyaki. Next time I really want to get the black sesame, one of my favorite flavors. As toppings, I added a pocky stick and matcha powder. My cousin got the mango, which was also really good. But I personally love the asian flavors over the fruit flavors.
