Udon Mugizo was a delightful experience. Although they were out of their Signature Uni Udon when I went, the Smoked Salmon was a pleasant surprise that had lovely depth and was contained in a very light cream sauce although plenty rich in flavor. The restaurant was filled, and a line was out the door on a Monday night dinner, as I was on the wait-list for around 20 minutes. The atmosphere was nice and cozy, although on the louder end with all the conversation. As for the meal, the creamy spinach sauce was surprisingly rich for a light consistency, and the green onions, seaweed, and ornamental sprouts added a decent amount of texture for the course. Some cheese grated on top of the cream added an additional layer of richness and flavor. The udon noodles were well cooked and was able to pull delicious amounts of spinach-cream goodness with each bite. The smoked salmon was a little one dimensional, but served its purpose as the protein of the course.Overall, I couldn't come up with any significant downfalls of this dish as I was too busy slurping away. However, the dish was not memorable and didn't strike me as something I would be urging others to try, as I spent around $25 including tip. The largest table area I could spot could seat around 4 or 5. A nice date spot if you're having trouble picking, or a nice and quick solo meal!
I tried the Mountain View location before coming to this one. However I don't remember these items on the menu. When this Udon Mugizo location first opened I was so stoked! But alas sad at the same time...as I had just walked out of Marufuku Ramen, across the way... Not sure how or why I didn't notice Udon Mugizo before I went in! Especially as I actually prefer Udon over Ramen.Seating was seamless even thought the place was packed. Put you name on the waiting list or use the Yelp app to secure a spot, and get a text when your table is ready. The staff were attentive, fast and efficient. No complaints!Send Noods:~ SEA URCHIN CREAM SAUCE UDON - 5/5This dish is "LIMITED TO 20 ORDER PER DAY" So you have to check and see if they are sold out before order it. Amazing flavor! The Cream Soup is thick and heavy, so while it doesn't look like much its filling. The Creamy soup gave me a pasta with White Sauce vibe. Unique. Different. Brilliant!~ TEMPURA ZARU UDON - 5/5I love meself some cold Udon, especially on a warm day. Don't be intimidated by the setting of this dish. I know...it looks like a project. We had to flag down a staff member and ask how it eat it...lol1.) Crush the Sesame seeds to your liking.2.) Empty the little rectangle tray containing Ginger & Green Onions over the Sesame seeds3.) Pour the cold soup over everything and stir.Next...dip the Udon noodles or put them all in the bowl and enjoy!I don't normally like Tempura, but here it was excellent! The Shrimp & vegetable Tempura were done perfectly; light, crispy and not oily at all. Can't wait to try all the other dishes!I'll be back!
the don w mini udon is an insane amount of food lol
Very good service. I've been here only two times but I've had good experiences on both accounts. I've tried the cold udon and the tempura soba, both filled me up which surprised me because it doesn't look like much up front. Waited about 15-20 mins for my food on both occasions and usually I'm there when it's really busy in the evening. The wait-list is very useful and you know exactly when you can walk in. Be aware if you bring a large party because they usually have very little space and mostly 2-4 people seating. Great spot overall, i love the ambiance as well. I'll be back for more
Long lines but doesn't take really long. The Udon is pretty good. I ordered the spicy tonkatsu udon and a side of sweet potato tempura. The waiters were very patient and friendly. One thing I'd say I don't like is sitting in the middle and having a see through wall where people can hear your conversations, stare at you and your food lol.
Yummy udon. Sometimes a long line but usually it's been fine. You can always walk around and tour kinokuniya anyways if you're waiting to be seated.Service here is good and the food is great too. Whether the cream udon or niku udon or the others, still so yummy. Apps are great too.Enjoy!
After having been to Japan, it’s always difficult to eat Japanese food and not stick my nose up. However, the Udon here was a perfect mixture of traditional with a bit of US flair. I got the spicy cold bowl, and my friend got the seas urchin, which was a bit heavy on the cream, but still very good.Only reason it’s not 5 starts, is they charge extra for spice, which is a bit silly IMO. Otherwise pricing was great and no line to get in. Will be back for sure when at the mall or going to the AMC.
Absolutely delicious udon. You must try the tonkotsu udon. I've never had udon as delicious as this. The broth had so much umami!! A must visit place if you're in Japantown
Servers were rude which overshadowed the good Japanese food. Need a courtesy visit from “cleaning” department of the city and from the “race” relations of the state to check the staff on discrimination practices. Asian hosts let Asian customers in without proof of Covid vaccination/ID while everybody else was questioned and badgered at the door. Noodles are good eats.
I arrived sometime around 6pm on a Wednesday and was seated immediately. I ordered the shrimp tempura rice bowl, an order of takoyaki on the side, and some hot tea. The shrimp tempura was delicious but I didn’t realize it came with a small udon bowl which I sadly was not able finish. The service and food were great - I definitely recommend visiting!
