Really enjoyed our time there. We didn’t get to make a reservation beforehand so we had to wait a little but after telling a fun fact to the shopkeeper we got to go through the fun entrance and get seated. It was great energy with live music including a saxophonist that traveled around to each table. The food was really good too. Definitely plan to return again
Such a fun concept! The outside is very unassuming; you would miss this is a bar if you didn't already know there was one there. Food and drinks are pretty good, but may not be the best place for anyone who doesn't like wine. Nonetheless, this place is fun and full of many surprises!
We had our bridal shower dinner at The Pawn Shop and it exceeded all expectations. The super fun concept, the professional but very warm and personal customer service and the amazing food - all 10/10. We had so much fun! Hope to be back soon!
An awesome place to visit in San Fran, we were greeted by a man upon entry who played a character of someone looking to trade/sell with you. We'd read a few reviews about having something to 'pawn' and thankfully had a quirky little cheap trinket on us which we were able to exchange with him for entry. Good to bring something like this but not essential. After he had accepted our item, we we escorted from the pawn shop into the incredibly buzzy restaurant and had amazing food.
The highlight of the experience for me was entering the pawn shop where the maitre-d puts on a fun show to say this is not a speak easy but your average pawn shop. Limited drink selection and menu but such is the case at a speak easy I suppose. Food was good and drinks did the job.
The outside of this store is labeled "money loaned" and when you go inside the desk guy will ask you what you want kind of as if it's a real pawn shop. You can just say you want to go to the bar, or have a good time, etc. Then they'll ask you if you have anything to trade/sell, or a good joke or story (just 1 per group I think). In my group we had people get in with a pair of airplane headphones, concert program book, and empty small succulent pot. It's actually really chill. We didn't have a reservation but were able to get a table of 8 on a Wednesday night. Then you go through a secret door to get into this speakeasy and you can order drinks and food. There is wine, cocktails, but no hard liquor. The food is nice shareable sizes and really good. After, you can go through another secret door to the sister bar/dance club which has cool dance floors - very euro techno vibe.
Super great date spot. Tasty food (I highly suggest the potatas bravas), tasty drinks, and pleasant ambiance. If you ask nicely you can be taken over to the sister bar, Monarch, and avoid paying a cover fee.I'd highly suggest planning your night so you arrive at The Pawn Shop around 9, have time for drinks and snackies, then head over to Monarch for a more clubby dance vibe.
Quite the adventure getting to the place, may be best to Uber to avoid tenderloin crazyness, but I love the pawn master and how he makes you work to get in! Either bring something to pawn or a jolly good joke or story to share. Both are valid!
There’s just something about going to a speakeasy-style bar that really makes you feel special. It’s like you’ve been let in on a secret, and now you finally get to be a part of something truly unique. I highly recommend their cocktails!
