Over outstanding Malaysian food. Mi goreng can be more flavorful. Hainan chicken rice is the best

We ware visiting San Fransisco as we parked our car saw this banner said they ware featured in Food Network so we decided to go in and have dinner as we walked in person came over and asked how many people and showed us a table right next to the entrance we asked if we can be seated in back of the place where it was empty... that person refused to do so and my daughter said it's ok we will seat here and I went along with it.We ordered 2 appetizers and our 4 main dish to our surprise they brought 1 appetizer first than while later next one that when it was time for our dinner dishes they brought ONE dish at a time.. it's almost first person finished their plate than another and so it was an terrible experience.Than top of all that they Automatically Charged 18% sur-charge plus they wanted to give them tip on the ticket!!!! I was going to cross off that 18% as I wasn't happy about it at all but my daughter got a soft heart and she insisted just give it but she was mad when she saw they were asking for more TIP????Food quality wasn't any better than any other Malaysian restaurant... and it's quite expensive.I know for sure we will NEVER visit this place ever again...

We came around 6:30pm on a Tuesday evening and it was very empty; no wait. This place is definitely good! Nothing fancy, though I wouldn't call it a hole in the wall either. Just kinda old school restaurant style.(+) Roti Canai - a staple and must have for every meal. I could eat so much of it.(+) Special Coffee Short Ribs - yummy, though I didn't get too much coffee in it. Tasted just like Asian short ribs.(+) Thai Jumbo Prawns - came with 6 enormous jumbo prawns, really yummy. Would recommend making sure you have a rice dish to help absorb some of the delicious sauce!(+) Singapore Rice Noodle - lots of veggies and goodies in here. Good staple carb dish! Rice noodles are yummy.(-) Nasi Lemak - we wanted to try something out of the norm so we ordered this. Weird and would not recommend. It's essentially several different components that are separated on the dish with a scoop of rice in the middle. Some cold cucumber, a hard boiled egg, cold pine leaves with dried anchovies on top, and pickle curry chicken. Oh yes, and just a scoop of peanuts.Overall very delicious. It might be something I order online and pickup in the future instead of eating there, but if you're craving some solid Thai, Singaporean, Malaysian food, would recommend stopping by.

I know we are not the only ones who do this but we figured out that the entire restaurant had zero Caucasians inside and was crowded with folks of Asian heritage so we figured Penang Garden was less touristy and more likely to be authentic and that there was a reasonable chance of it having good food. Although I have been to Malaysia/Singapore and Thailand, I cannot speak to how authentic the food was but I can say it was very good. We tried three dishes. The first dish that came out was the Mango Jumbo Prawns. The sauce they came in was sweet and slightly hot/spicy. I liked the dish even though I rarely appreciate protein with sweet. Prawn size was fairly generous in size and number. My wife who loves fruit and is usually less critical than I did not care for the sweetness. Next came the Salt and Pepper Eggplant, wow amazing. Light batter and just delicious. Both of our favorite. Last, and quite some time later, the Singapore noodles came out. They were OK. The dish was a little lacking in flavor I felt. Atmosphere was pretty sterile but comfortable enough. Seating area was extremely loud however. Service was only OK. The menu is pretty extensive and I look forward to visiting again sometime and trying some different items.

Cha kwey tiao & Hokkien Bee Hoon!

I was excited to visit a town that had Malaysian food, it's been so long since I'd had it. It was quite dissapointing though. On top of there not being any malay beverages or desserts, the roti canai wasn't actually roti canai, and the Nasi Lemak I could not even finish. Chicken was very old, owner got upset at me for discussing it with him. Left disappointed/sad.

The food overall are pretty good, especially the Hainan chicken, very tasty and tender, definitely will come back!

A place filed with locals. Understaffed and busy at dinner time - expect a long wait for your food.

Hainan chicken rice here is just Amazing!!!

Not your typical Chinese food. Different but good. The only problem is their about twice the price of other places around. Way over priced
