Great service. Friendly and welcoming. nice atmosphere, fresh squeezed orange juice. Great coffee and delicious food. Will defo be back.

Great ambience and customer service. Very attentive and Friendly. I had the Ranchero breakfast Burrito with fruit as a side. I failed to take a picture but the presentation was well done. I didn't think you can actually present a Burrito as it's just a tortilla rolled up with things in it.To my surprise they added some toppings and it looked picture perfect. It also tasted very good. Very impressed with the presentation. Always something new to learn each day and very glad the cooks take their time. Not only do they prepare food to eat, but also make it look good. A Burrito; whoever would of thought?

Really good food, and service.

Mel's kitchen is an ideal place to go during any part of aday. I've been there Numerous times. Valentines my Lady Friend took me there for a Belated Birthday and a Valentines Dinner. It was an Exellent Choice of a place to eat. We both had a BLT with Bacon ? & Avocado ?. Coleslaw and Nicely cut French Fries. They also in addition have a Full Bar in a Restaurant setting. That can set one's mood. There Menue is Full of Choices that will satisfy one's Palet. I Highly Recommend that Everyone go to Mel's Kitchen as a Choice for a Pleasurable meal. I had to kill time between doing tests at the CPMC outpatient lab across Geary Street from Mel's Kitchen and was hankering to break my fasting state with a nice breakfast.Although a few of the reviews here on Google Maps have not been laudatory, I was pleasantly surprised by my first visit to this restaurant. There was plenty of both booth and counter seating when I arrived here before 8 AM. My nice waiter, Primo, helpfully suggested that the booth I had selected by the door was right in the path of a cold draft and he ushered me to a more comfortable table.Mel's Kitchen has a small selection of both traditional and Mexican breakfast items. I decided to try the chilaquiles, fried eggs on a bed of rice, beans, and tortilla chips. Delicious and filling! As others have stated, the coffee served here was superb. And the price for breakfast came to a reasonable total, less than $20.I already recommended Mel's Kitchen to a friend who lives near the restaurant and he just told me that he did go this week and enjoyed the vegetarian omelet. I know that we will both be repeat customers!

Ok, this place is so much better than its rating. They are aware that there were issues prior to the re-branding as Mel’s Kitchen. Not saying its cheap or the “best” place around. But its definitely better than current 3.8 should be 4.4Good staff, full bar, competent menu. If your around the area its a good one.

Great Breakfast! Great Servers and a Great cook.

I was cold, slightly wet, and could eat which is why I went into Mel's Kitchen.First impression: Is it a bar? A diner? A restaurant? I don't know what they're going for. There were some umbrella bags at the door. The place was nearly empty which made sense because it was 3:50 PM. I had to wait for a while for someone to see my vaccination card and ID and give me a menu. The person was also doubling as a waitress and bartender. I didn't like my seat, so I moved to a different one up a few steps. The person stated "I don't serve up there." Why are there seats there in the first place then?I wasn't very hungry, so I wanted to order a kids grilled cheese with tomato soup. I found out that it's restricted to people under 12. I feel like that should've been put on the menu. I settled with the 6oz steak with hash browns and three eggs and iced tea as a drink. I had my eggs scrambled. The steak definitely needed more salt. Luckily, there was a salt shaker. The steak sauce was a bit too sour for me. The hash brown was wonderful—crispy, held together well, and didn't need any help but the ketchup was welcome. There were also two slices of toast with some softened butter and Smucker's jelly. The iced tea wasn't sweetened which was fine for me.After eating and paying, I went to the restroom. It was very clean. However, the paper towels being right next to the urinal, like really right next, made it very awkward to dry my hands while another guy was peeing. The urinal was attached to the wall. The man was standing in front of the urinal. The paper towel dispenser was placed right behind him on the wall to his right. Good think I discovered that there was also a hand dryer available on the other side of the restroom.Overall, it was just okay. The service could've been better. The food could've been better. Everything could've been better, but it wasn't a horrible experience. Solid three stars.

I came in, after a 2 hour drive from out of town. This is my first time in SF since the beginning of the pandemic. I was hungry and impatient. I was asked for my vaccine card, and was refused sit-down service because of failure to provide my medical records on principal. While it's no fault of their own, the meal was mediocre at best. I got a burger to go, the fries were alright, but the burger was very dry. No mayo, no mustard, just lettuce, pickle, and meat. For the same $18, I could have gotten 5 burgers at 7-11 and it would have been better quality.1 star.

Went back to Mel's diner, 4 the 2nd time and it waz truly better than the 1st. This time everything was on point even the waiters service this time, food was really good.
